5.1. Kesimpulan

1. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa penerimaan responden setelah mengkonsumsi minyak sawit mentah selama 2 bulan menunjukkan peningkatan, sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif sumber provitamin A alami selain sayuran dan buah-buahan. Rata-rata konsumsi minyak sawit mentah per orang per hari selama 2 bulan sebanyak 2,94 ml atau setara dengan 1,95 mg beta karoten.

2. Pada responden yang diambil darah, konsumsi minyak sawit mentah selama 2 bulan meningkatkan rata-rata kadar beta-karoten dalam plasma

darah dari 1,907±1,006 μmol/l menjadi 1,965±0,762 μmol/l. Kenaikan

kadar beta karoten terjadi pada 16 responden, sedangkan pada 6 responden lain mengalami penurunan. Rata-rata kadar malonaldehida dalam plasma darah mengalami penurunan dari 0,482±0,237 nmol/ml menjadi

0,408±0,19 nmol/ml. Penurunan kadar malonaldehida terjadi pada 13 Responden, 2 responden tidak mengalami perubahan, sedangkan pada 7 responden lain mengalami kenaikan. Rata-rata aktivitas enzim xantin oksidase pada sebelum dan sesudah konsumsi MSMn tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan, dimana aktivitas enzim pada sebelum dan sesudah konsumsi adalah 3,458±1,782 U/g protein menjadi 3,577±1,939 U/g protein.

5.2. Saran

Perlu dilakukan penelitian mengenai efek konsumsi minyak sawit mentah terhadap aktivitas enzim xantin oksidase pada responden dengan resiko atau penderita penyakit jantung, penderita kolesterol, asam urat, perokok atau penyakit infeksi lainnya.
