Kegiatan pengeboran sumur pengembangan dan Kerja Ulang Pindah Lapisan (KUPL) merupakan dua aktivitas utama eksploitasi untuk mempertahankan dan meningkatkan produksi migas dari lapangan-lapangan yang sudah mature. Pada tahun 2012 realisasi pengeboran sumur pengembangan oleh Pertamina EP adalah sebanyak 148 sumur oleh Pertamina Hulu Energi sebanyak 85 sumur, dan 11 sumur Pertamina Geothermal Energi (PGE). Sementara itu, pengeboran KUPL tercatat sebanyak 140 sumur oleh Pertamina EP.
Eksplorasi Migas Luar Negeri
Pertamina aktif melakukan kegiatan pengembangan usaha di luar negeri, baik sebagai salah satu cara untuk membangun pengalaman dan kapabilitas dalam mengoperasikan proyek-proyek di luar negeri maupun untuk menambah cadangan migas yang dikuasai guna peningkatan output produksi migas secara keseluruhan.
Blok SK-305, Offshore Malaysia
PHE memiliki penyertaan 30% di Blok SK-305 di lepas pantai Serawak, Malaysia. Sedang dilakukan studi AVO - Inversion untuk Area C, Dafnah, Half Graben dan Penian High dan Studi - Western Part Basin Study & Hydrocarbon Trapping Mechanism in D Area. Adapun produksi minyak sebesar rata-rata 586 BOPD dan 5,38 MMSCFD dan 3 sumur pengembangan. Produksi migas telah diperoleh sebesar rata-rata 2.500 BOPD minyak dan 18 MSCFD gas.
Activities in development well drilling and work over well (KUPL) drilling are the two main exploitation activities to maintain and to enhance oil and gas production from existing mature fields. In 2012, realization of development well drilling by Pertamina EP is 148 wells, and 11 wells by Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), 85 wells by Pertamina Hulu Energi.Meanwhile, 140 KUPL (work over wells) drilling was recorded by Pertamina EP.
Overseas Oil and Gas Exploration
Pertamina actively conduct business development activities overseas, both as a way to build experience and capability in operating overseas projects and to increase oil and gas reserves which it controls in order to increase the overall output of oil and gas production.
Block SK-305, Offshore Malaysia
PHE has a 30% participation in Block SK -305 offshore Sarawak, Malaysia. Studies of AVO - Inversion for Area C, Dafnah, Half Graben and Penian High are underway and Studies - Western Part Basin Study and Hydrocarbon Trapping Mechanism in D Area . The oil production has an average of 586 bopd and 5,38 MMSCFD and 3 development wells. Oil and gas production has been obtained for an average of 2,500 BOPD of oil and 18 MSCFD of gas.
Blok BMG, Offshore Australia
PHE tengah menuntaskan proses divestasi dan pengunduran diri dari kepemilikan operasional pada Blok BMG di lepas pantai Australia yang telah dinyatakan sebagai blok non-produksi. Blok 13, Laut Merah, Sudan
Pertamina memiliki 15% saham operasional pada blok 13 di Laut Merah, Sudan. Telah melaksanakan pekerjaan survei seismik 2D sepanjang 6 km. Komitmen untuk pengeboran 2 sumur eksplorasi.
Blok 3, Offshore Qatar
Pertamina memiliki 25% saham operasional di blok 3 Qatar. Saat ini Wintershall masih melakukan G&G study terutama seismic interpretation, dan G&G study (basin modeling dan tomography).
Blok 17.3 Offshore dan Blok 123.3 Onshore, Libia
Blok 17.3 Offshore dan 123.3 Onshore Libia, dioperasikan oleh Pertamina E&P Libya Ltd. Sedang disiapkan joint Study untuk block 17-3 dan daerah di sekitarnya milik Sirt Oil. Komitmen untuk pengeboran dua sumur eksplorasi. Kedua wilayah kerja saat ini berstatus non operasional (kondisi force majeur).
Bisnis Energi Panas Bumi
Energi panas bumi (geothermal) adalah salah satu energi terbarukan yang ramah lingkungan, dan saat ini giat dikembangkan di Indonesia untuk keperluan pembangkitan tenaga listrik. Keterlibatan Pertamina di sektor energi panas bumi adalah sesuai dengan visinya sebagai perusahaan energi, dan dilakukan melalui aktivitas anak perusahaan PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE). Block BMG, Offshore Australia
PHE is in the middle of completing the divestment and resignation of operational holdings in Block BMG in the Australian offshore which has been declared as a non-production block.
Block 13, Red Sea, Sudan
The company has a 15% operating share in block 13 in the Red Sea, Sudan. A 6 km 2D seismic survey has been carried out. Commitment to drill two exploration wells.
Block 3, Offshore Qatar
Pertamina has a 25% operating share in block 3 Qatar. Wintershall is currently still conducting G&G studies, especially seismic interpretation, and G&G studies (basin modeling and tomography).
Block 17.3 Offshore and Block 123.3 Onshore, Libya
Block 17.3 Offshore and 123.3 Onshore Libya, operated by Pertamina E&P Libya Ltd. Being prepared for a joint Study for block 17-3 and the surrounding area is owned by Sirt Oil. Commitment to drill two exploration wells. Both work areas are currently in a non-operational status (force majeure conditions).
Geothermal Business
Geothermal energy is one of the environmentally friendly renewable energy sources, and is currently being actively developed in Indonesia for power generation purposes. Pada WKP yang dioperasikan sendiri, terdapat 4 WKP yang telah beroperasi, yaitu Sibayak (12 MW) di Sumatera Utara, Kamojang (200 MW) di Jawa Barat, dan Lahendong (80 MW) di Sulawesi Utara, Ulubelu (110 MW). Sedangkan untuk WKP kemitraan 4 WKP telah berproduksi, yaitu Gunung Salak, Wayang Windu (227 MW), Darajat (260 MW) dan Dieng (60 MW).
Pada tahun 2012, PGE tercatat menyelesaikan pengeboran eksplorasi pada 1 sumur di area Hululais dan 1 sumur di area Sungai Penuh yang pengerjaannya masih berlanjut sampai ke tahun 2013. Sedangkan untuk aktivitas pengeboran pengembangan, PGE telah menyelesaikan total 11 sumur dengan rincian: area Kamojang (4 sumur), Ulubelu (I sumur), Lumut Balai (3 sumur), Karaha (2 sumur) dan Lahendong (1 sumur). Per akhir tahun 2012, terdapat 2 sumur pengembangan yang masih on-going yaitu di Lahendong dan di Sungai Penuh.
Pada tahun 2012, total produksi uap dari pengusahaan panas bumi dari WKP yang telah berproduksi tercatat sebanyak 67,72 juta ton setara dengan energi listrik sebesar 9.298 GWh. Kontribusi dari WKP yang dioperasikan sendiri oleh PGE adalah 15,69 juta ton uap setara dengan 2.217 GWh listrik.
Pengembangan Gas Metana Batubara
Sesuai dengan kebijakan diversifikasi energi untuk menjaga ketahanan energi nasional, Pertamina juga aktif mengembangkan sumber-sumber energi baru, termasuk gas metana batu bara (coal bed methane/CBM) sebagai salah satu sumber energi yang sangat potensial di Indonesia. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui aktivitas anak perusahaan PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE). Sampai dengan akhir tahun 2012, PHE memiliki 14 anak perusahaan Production Sharing Contract (PSC) CBM.
Pada tahun 2012, PHE telah menyelesaikan pengeboran eksplorasi pada 2 sumur di Blok Tanjung Enim, sementara pengeboran eksplorasi di 2 sumur lainnya di Blok Muara Enim masih berlanjut ke tahun 2013.
Jasa Pengeboran
Pertamina juga menyediakan jasa pengeboran yang dikelola oleh anak perusahaan, PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI). Saat ini, PDSI memiliki 36 rig pengeboran, termasuk 4 rig yang baru (2 rig kapasitas 1.500 HP dan 2 rig kapasitas 1.000 HP). Tingkat avaibility rig PDSI tercatat sebesar 98,84% pada tahun 2012, sedangkan tingkat utilisasi rig adalah sebesar 95,56%. On the solely operated WKPs, there are 4 WKPs which have been producing, namely Sibayak (12MW) in North Sumatra, Kamojang (200MW) in West Java, and Lahendong (80MW) in North Sulawesi, Ulubelu (110 MW). As for the partnership WKPs, 4 WKPs have been producing, namely Gunung Salak, Wayang Windu (227MW), Darajat (260MW), and Dieng (60MW). In 2012, PGE recorded the completion of exploration drilling of 1 well in the Hululais area and 1 well in Sungai Penuh of which the process is continuing until the year 2013. As for the development
drilling activity, PGE has completed a total of 11 wells detailing:
Kamojang area (4 wells), Ulubelu (1 well), Lumut Balai (3 wells), Karaha (2 wells) and Lahendong (1 well). By the end of 2012, there were 2 well development that are still on-going, they are at Lahendong and Sungai Penuh.
In 2012, total steam production from the utilization of geothermal steam from the production WKPs amounted to 67.72 million tons, equivalent to 9,298 GWh of electricity. Contribution of the solely operated WKP by PGE was 15.69 million tons of steam, equivalent to 2,217 Gwh of electricity.
Coal Bed Methane (CBM) Development
In accordance with the energy diversification policy to maintain national energy security, Pertamina is also actively developing new energy sources, including coal bed methane (CBM) gas as a potential source of energy in Indonesia. These activities are implemented through the activities of its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Hulu Energy (PHE).
Up to the end of 2012, PHE has 14 Production Sharing Contract (PSC) subsidiariesv CBM.
In 2012, PHE has completed the drilling of 2 exploration wells in Tanjung Enim Block, while exploratory drilling of 2 other wells in Muara Enim Block still continues into 2013.
Drilling Services
Pertamina also provides drilling services that are managed by a subsidiary company, PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI). Currently, PDSI has 36 drilling rigs, including 4 new rigs (2 rigs with a capacity of 1,500 HP and 2 rigs with a capacity of 1,000 HP). PDSI rig availability rate stood at 98.84% in 2012, while the rig utilization rate is 95.66%.

Pertamina’s business operations in the downstream sector cover the Refinery, Marketing & Trading, and LNG businesses. Marketing & Trading Business covers the distribution of oil and petrochemical products directly produced by Pertamina’s refineries or imported, to domestic and overseas markets, and supported by distribution and transportation facilities by land and sea.
Reinery Business
Pertamina’s oil refinery business is carried out at 6 Refinery Units (RU) across Indonesia, comprising RU II Dumai - Sei Pakning, RU III Plaju, RU IV Cilacap, RU V Balikpapan, RU VI Balongan and RU VII Sorong. Total installed capacity of these refineries reached 1,031 thousand barrels stream day (MBSD).
Pertamina’s refineries produce fuel (BBM) products consisting of Premium gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, aviation gasoline, marine fuel oil, diesel oil, Pertamax and Pertamax Plus gasoline with high Research Octane Number (RON), as well as high cetane number and low sulphur content diesel fuel under the brand Pertamina Dex.
Pertamina’s refineries also produce LPG and other gas products including Gas Fuel (BBG), MusiCool, Hydrocarbon Aerosol Propellant (HAP) and Vi-Gas. Non- Fuel product and Petrochemical produced by Pertamina include Lube Base Oil, Smooth Fluid, Paraxylene, Benzene, Propylene, Polypropylene and solvent.
