(Full-time and part-time) INTRODUCTION
COURSE DETAILS
Studies towards the Bachelor of Education are available through three linking programs each pitched at a different level. These are:
• Re-orientation to Teaching program: a 13-week continuing education course designed to give specific categories of former teachers an opportunity to learn of recent developments in education;
• Extended Bachelor of Education program: a course of units (normally a minimum of four) designed to replace the Diploma of Teaching (Upgrading); and
• Bachelor of Education: designed for three-year-trained (or equivalent) teachers wish- ing to pursue degree studies in education.
Specific details are provided below.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The entry requirements for each of the three programs are:
Re-orientation to Teaching program: Teachers with fewer than three years initial teacher education studies and less than three years' teaching experience in the last eight years.
Extended Bachelor of Education program: Teachers with fewer than three years' ini- tial teacher education studies and a minimum of three years' teaching experience in the last eight years.
Bachelor of Education: Teachers with a Diploma of Teaching or equivalent qualifica- tion and at least one year of teaching experience.
ENROLMENT PROCEDURES (Continuing students, all programs)
Continuing students receive a Re-enrolment Form, which doubles as a unit preference form, and a set of instructions to assist in the selection of appropriate units. Re-enrolment Forms should be completed and returned by 30 November 1984 so that unit selection may be checked and allocations confirmed by means of the duplicate copy of the form.
STUDY LOAD (All programs)
When completing forms students should note the following:
• Full-time students: Students who wish to enrol on a full-time basis normally enrol in four units each semester and select day lectures. However, the majority of units involve evening classes.
• Part-time students: Part-time students normally enrol in no more than two units per semester.
• External students: Except in certain circumstances, students who reside in the Bris- bane metropolitan area will not be accepted for external enrolment. External students normally enrol in no more than two units per semester. Brisbane students who wish to make a special case for external status should do so by way of an attachment.
COURSE DETAILS
RE-ORIENT A TION TO TEACHING PROGRAM (Offered subject to final approval.)
In second semester the College offers a re-orientation to teaching program to former teachers who have had fewer than three years' pre-service teacher education and less than three years' teaching experience in the last eight years.
It is planned to offer the program during the day at the Kelvin Grove campus for former secondary teachers and at the Carseldine or Mount Gravatt campuses for former primary teachers. It may also be possible to offer the program by external studies. However it should be noted that the program is not intended to serve as a retraining or conversion course.
On successful completion of the program, participants are eligible for provisional teacher registration and entry into the 'Extended' Bachelor of Education program.
