COMBINED COURSE IN S C I E N C E AND ENGINEERING
In 1987 the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science introduced a combined course of five years' duration in Electrical Engineering and a branch of study offered by the Faculty of Science. Initially the Science degree will be in one of Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics. On completion of the five-year course, a student will be eligible to be admitted to the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science (B.E./B.Sc.) and will also be eligible for membership of the appropriate engineering professional bodies. (Students will be required to complete the vacation practical work requirements of the engineering degree course before being eligible to graduate B E. (Electrical).) Because of the relevance of the engineering and science studies to one another, and because of the expected high standard of entry and academic performance in the course, it is anticipated that graduates will not only have an enhanced level of knowledge in their chosen disciplines, but will be able to offer employers a demonstrated competence academically and a valuable breadth of scientific understanding.
The course structure in Electrical and Electronic Engineering has been modified • to take into account appropriate studies in the Faculty of Science. It is also expected that students who reach an appropriate standard at the completion of either or both degrees will be able to progress to postgraduate study in engineering or to the honours year in science.
.Applications for entry to the combined course will be handled in the same way
"as for other courses. Intending applicants are therefore advised to apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre, entering the code USN on the preference list.
Those interested in further details about the course are advised to contact the Assistant Registrar (Engineering) in the first instance.
Enrolment in units listed below is subject to appropriate approval from both the Faculties of Science and of Engineering.
Details of Science units may be found in the Faculty of Science Handbook 1988.
