Background

In the Senior External Examination syllabuses, assessment is developed and marked by the QCAA. It contributes 100% to a student’s overall subject result.

In Ancient History, two topics from Unit 3 and two topics from Unit 4 are selected by the QCAA for assessment.

In Modern History, two topics from Unit 3 and two topics from Unit 4 are selected by the QCAA for assessment. For each topic, an aspect of the topic is also specified by the QCAA.

In both Ancient History and Modern History, students will complete a total of two assessments which contribute to their final subject result:

• Summative external assessment 1 (EA1): Examination (50%)

 Section 1: Short response

Section 2: Essay in response to historical sources

• Summative external assessment 2 (EA2): Examination (50%)

 Section 1: Combination response

Section 2: Short responses to historical sources.

Each section of the assessments is based on a different topic nominated by the QCAA.

Specifications for the examination conditions are outlined in the relevant syllabuses.
