How the Media works:
Representation- media provides information, shows us what’s going on in other parts of the world
Interpretation- via representation, media interprets our world and shapes our understanding
Evaluation- Judgement, the consumer view of information received - Shapes our world, teaches us about significant matters
- Major contributor to how we see the world!
Selection/ Omission/ Construction – what you will leave out
Code- symbols, signs that are culturally acceptable e.g. Colour, Camera Angle, Lighting.
Impact- gives people an opinion (depending on how its represented) , feeds consumers a message
- Makes sense of the world for us
- We learn through others, e.g. children learn and understand the world from adults.
- Increase in demand for local T.V and small business
Storytelling- our role= in all diversity of media is to tell a story but not always with vision
Module 2
How a video camera works:
A video camera works the same way as an eye perceives images
Starts with lighting - Shadows= depth - Light can be focused
- Light can be split into component colours - Light converts into energy
- Electrical signals can be measured, processed and stored
Sight and Sound
- Lens: gathers light, bends light and focuses it.
- Convex lens allows zoon
- More lenses= better camera/ quality picture - Storage medium
- Opening at the end of camera= aperture
Subtractive colour model
Black absorbs colour, other colours reflect
All the colours get absorbed except for the colour of the object e.g. blue shirt absorbs all colours except blue
Three primary colours used when creating all colours -RGB = RED, GREEN, BLUE
-RBG creates white light
Additive colour
RBG= Mixes to create different colours - All basic colours of light create white
(This was on the first quiz in semester 1 2016)
CCD= Change Coupled Device (Changed light into electricity) CMOS= Complementary metal oxide semi-conductor Collect – Convert – Store
- Collect= Light
- Convert=Conversion to electricity - Store= Disk, Drive, Tape
