GROWTH ASSESSMENT AND ACTION PROGRAM

April 2006 Survey Period

Introduction

Growth Assessment and Action (GAA) is the monitoring and growth promotion programme for children under 5 years of age in rural and remote communities of the Northern Territory. This report presents the results of the GAA data collection detailed above. This involves routinely collected measurements of weight, height/length and haemoglobin from which were calculated the indicators height for age, weight for age, and weight for height.

World Health Organisation standards were used to determine whether these growth indicator values were satisfactory or not.

The population data used within this report is sourced from a data set available at the Epidemiology website: http://internal.health.nt.gov.au/healthplan/epi/epi.htm (DHCS Intranet). As ATSIC regions have similar boundaries to DHCS health districts, the population estimates for "health regions" have been created using ABS data on ATSIC regions. Please refer to this website for further clarification of the data source.
