A one-year librarianship course for trained teachers who wish to specialize in teacher librarianship. Much of the teaching in the course is provided by university staff; however, the course is under the authority of the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne, with the Faculty of Education being responsible for certain elements of the course.

Courses undertaken by external study are designed for students who are unable to attend the College regularly, but students may be required to attend meetings, seminars and laboratory classes that may be arranged during the year. Subjects not offered for study by external study may be able to be undertaken by attending the College part-time and combined with subjects taken abroad.
PART-TIME STUDY
All applications must be made on the prescribed application form available from the Department of External Study or the Office of the Registrar, and sent to the Department of External Study, Melbourne State College by 5 December 1975. Applicants who wish to claim credit for previous tertiary study must provide documentary evidence of their qualifications, including transcripts of content from courses previously completed or undertaken.
SPECIAL ENTRY SCHEMES
All applications for admission to a course must be accompanied by documentary evidence of qualifications to be used to meet the admission requirement of that course. Applicants claiming teaching experience will need to provide a copy of their 'Employment Record' with the Education Department of Victoria, or other evidence of teaching experience.

Units of work in filmmaking and film studies are available in the drama program for those who do not wish to take a major sequence in film and television. In addition to the four-year program for prospective drama teachers, the Drama Department runs a number of relatively short-term elective units available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Art and Crafts), Diploma of Teaching (Primary), Graduate Diploma of Special Education and Trained Teacher-Librarian Certificate.

REGULATIONS FOR THE HIGHER DIPLOMA OF TEACHING (SECONDARY)
The points to be marked for passing in each such subject will be determined by the Board of Studies. Common content subjects will be determined from time to time by the Board of Studies.
ARTS
Accounting, economics and at least one of either legal studies or shorthand studies are compulsory. In the later years of the programme, major studies are in drama (with the option for students to specialize in areas of their choice), education and a further area of specialization.
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Students can complete a study program specializing in film and television subjects. The course program allows the student to complete up to half of the work required to obtain the degree of HD.D.T.S.
LIBRARIANSHIP
The most important areas of activity are film production, film and TV studios and video production. Additional studies in group 2 and/or group 3 subjects other than librarianship, normally worth 12 points.
SCIENCE
The education includes the equivalent of three years of study in music and the equivalent of one year of education in education. The major divisions in music are: practical music and performance, composition and improvisation, musicology.

SUBJECT DESCRIPTIONS ACCOUNTANCY
During the year, exams are held on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. At the end of the course, one exam of a maximum of two hours is taken.
BIOLOGY C SUBJECTS
Seminar, laboratory, field and assignments will be taken into account in the final evaluation. At the end of the course, there is one exam lasting up to three hours.
BIOLOGY D SUBJECTS
The final assessment takes into account seminar, laboratory and assignment work during the year. Practical work and assignments are included in the final assessment, together with any exams.
COMPUTER STUDIES
Some topics will be examined at the end of each term, some in the examination time at the end of the year. About one third of the subject will be devoted to each of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry.

The consultant will follow the progress of the work carried out and will be available for regular discussions. However, this renegotiation must be done with coordinating staff and consultant immediately, it is obvious that the terms of the original contract cannot be met or must be changed.
ECONOMICS
The practical work is an integral part of the course material and participation in the practical lessons is compulsory. Participation in seminars is an integral part of the subject and participation in classes is compulsory.
EDUCATION
This course includes the study of Pedagogical Sociology and the Curriculum, and is taken by students in the third year of Sports Education. This course consists of Education 4A (27 credits) and units provided by the Department of Educational Sociology and other departments in the Faculty of Education.
