Those engaged in the business of teacher education are consolidating their opinions about the function of colleges, their roles as educators, and the needs of students. There is already on the Parkville site the Melbourne College of Teachers, the College of Secondary Teachers and its Science Education Centre, and the Education Resource Centre, which opened last year. With the appointment of a director and the creation of a Board of Studies, there would be a consistent approach to vocational training through the pooling of staff and facilities already in place.

COLLEGE STUDIES

SCHOOL EXPERIENCE Two (2) days per week

Selected students will receive this one-year course as an extension of the T.P.T.C. The extra year qualifies them to take charge of libraries in Department of Education schools. This qualification can also be achieved by classified teachers who receive a free course from the department. The course trains students to manage and organize school and college libraries, to acquire knowledge and appreciation of children's literature, to understand children's reading habits, and to establish the library as the local point of the school's or educational program university.

CERTIFICATE OF TRAINED SPECIAL TEACHER T.Sp.T.C. Selected candidates are granted this one-year course as an extension of the primary school teacher course or as a free course after a minimum of three years' experience as a classroom teacher in a classroom classroom. The course enables them to understand the special needs of slow learning and disabled children and trains them in the special skills required to train them for placement in correctional centers, remedial centers, casual classes, special schools for the mentally challenged. and for physically challenged children, demonstration units and training centers. Two hours each week were taken from the philosophy and psychology department of special education and devoted to the treatment of problems and techniques in diagnosis and remediation.

These three groups work on a three-week cycle: the first week they work in the laboratory, the second week they go on a field trip to a relevant environment and the third week they do a longitudinal study of one child's development over the year. This additional year of training enables teachers to lead arts and crafts centers in elementary schools and to teach arts and crafts classes in consolidated schools. The aim of the course is to develop the students' cultural background, enrich their knowledge and appreciation of art and provide them with opportunities for artistic expression.

They are encouraged to experiment so that they can develop creativity and learn skills that will help them become specialist teachers of arts and crafts.

THE STUDENTSHIP

A student who does not complete the course in the normal time will not be employed at a school. Once in the field, his competence will be assessed by the district inspector, who will inform the faculty of the desired standard achieved. There is no order at this stage; their surnames are listed in alphabetical order in order to meet the requirements of the Law on Pedagogical Service. After successful completion of the first two years of the course, they are placed on the merit list.

However, students will be eligible for private reports and evaluations only after the sixth year of service from the date of enrollment in college. Each year, the Extended Student Scholarship is awarded to the number of students who have successfully completed the Teacher Diploma (Primary) course.
