Monitoring 2011: Timelines and content of submissions
Purpose
To notify schools of the dates for Year 11 Monitoring in 2011 and of the date submissions are due at the QSA district office. This memo also provides information about the selection of folios of students’
work to be included in submissions.
Background
Monitoring is the process by which review panels consider the school’s implementation of a course and the standards of assessment in Authority subjects after approximately half of the course of study has been completed.
Information
All schools with Year 11 students studying senior Authority subjects in 2010 are to provide submissions for monitoring.
Due date for submissions
School submissions are required at the QSA district offices by Friday 3 December 2010.
Contents of a school submission
Refer to the Moderation handbook for Authority subjects, located at <www.qsa.qld.edu.au/1426.html>
to see what schools are required to submit. The processes are discussed in Section 3.3; the information sheet for teachers, Requirements for a Monitoring Submission, is located in Section 4.1.2.
Please do not include materials other than those listed in the Moderation handbook for Authority subjects Requirements for a Monitoring Submission.
Safety of submission handlers
The size and weight of some packaged submissions have previously caused handling difficulties for staff in district offices, and for panellists receiving submissions. The Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 Code of Practice — Manual Handling, contains guidelines for handling materials. If the total package of submissions from the school exceeds 16 kg, please bundle submissions into smaller packages clearly marked, for example, Package 1 of 2.

What you need to do
Please bring this memorandum to the attention of the staff in your school responsible for compiling submissions for monitoring, and put procedures in place to ensure that the requirements of monitoring submissions, as detailed in the Moderation handbook for Authority subjects, are met by the staff at your school.
