ENROLMENT INFORMATION
Courses can be added in the first two teaching weeks of the semester if you have permission from the relevant lecturer and the faculty. Deferral of registration is not possible for students in postgraduate programs of the Faculty of Education.
FEES, HECS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
A student enrolled in one of the faculty's master's programs can apply for a leave of absence in case of serious health, financial and personal difficulties. Students can submit a written request or fill in the application form for leave of absence, which can be requested from the faculty office.

For students who have applied for part-time studies, the Faculty can offer additional verification in any of its subjects. After determining the success at the end of the academic year, the faculty reviews the enrollments of those students who achieved a lower success.
POLICY ON CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS STUDY
Unsatisfactory progress' is a term used to describe performance that does not meet the academic standard set by the faculty. They may also be required to appear before the Faculty's Graduate Programs Student Advancement Committee.

Graduate Certificate in Dance Therapy Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Studies Graduate Diploma in Movement and Dance Graduate Diploma in Special Education. The Graduate Certificate in Dance Therapy can be awarded to a student who has met the requirements and has passed the courses listed below.
GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD STUDIES
A degree in early childhood studies may be awarded to a student who has completed Three courses are available in the field of child development, and four in the administrative field of early childhood studies.
GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MOVEMENT AND DANCE
Content: A study of the physiological aspects of human movement, providing an introduction to the body's physiological systems and their role in control. For students not in the dance therapy stream, approval from the course coordinator is required to enroll in this subject.
GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN SPECIAL EDUCATION
Content: A study of the needs and wants of Australian families with children with special needs, leading to an understanding and appreciation of children. Assessment: A content-based class presentation based on prescribed course reading (40 percent) and a paper (2,500 words) addressing theoretical issues related to a specific type of disability or evaluation of a cognitive-linguistic program in the context of research findings (60 percent).
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATIONAL STUDIES (TESOL)
Please see the general information section at the beginning of this handbook, under unsatisfactory progress, for an outline of the College's process for dealing with students who fall into these categories. The candidate must attend the lectures and classes prescribed by the academic council on the recommendation of the faculty and published with details of the courses, and pass the prescribed grades to the satisfaction of the examiners.
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN MATHEMATICS AND
Each candidate must obtain faculty approval for his or her proposed studies when applying for admission to the course and at the beginning of each year after admission to the course. The Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Studies can be awarded to a student who has fulfilled the.
MATHEMATICS EDUCATION
After admission, a candidate must complete a higher education course for at least one academic year and a maximum of two academic years as a part-time student, unless an applicant has had another candidate period approved by the academic council per recommendation from the Faculty of Education. A candidate must attend lectures and classes and/or workshops as prescribed by the Academic Committee on the recommendation of the Faculty and published with details of topics.
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN
No candidate may take a course of study or receive credit for courses completed unless the candidate's proposed selection of courses has been approved by the Faculty. Education in Mathematics may be awarded to a student who has met the prescribed requirements and passed the coursework as defined below.
PROFESSIONAL STUDIES IN EDUCATION
Students must achieve a passing grade in each of the two 25-point compulsory subjects: 485-870 Mathematical Statistics for Teachers and 485-869 Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling. A candidate must attend lectures and classes, and/or workshops and/or internships, as prescribed by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the Faculty and published with details of topics.
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING
To qualify for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education, a candidate must satisfactorily complete 50 credits of courses, selected from the pool of postgraduate level subjects available to Masters and Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma students. To qualify for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate of Education and Training, two 25-point subjects must be completed from the pool of available subjects.
POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER EDUCATION

The Faculty of Education has responded to the great demand from schools for relatively short, intensive and flexible professional development programs - programs which will enable participants to access the latest.
POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA OF EDUCATION AND TRAINING
To meet the requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training, students must complete four 25-point subjects selected from the Education and Training Pool of subjects. The following subjects form the pool of subjects for the Postgraduate Diploma of Education and Training and are classified into strands.
MASTER OF EDUCATION
Graduates from Stream 2 are eligible to apply for admission to the PhD or Doctor of Education programmes. Graduates from Stream 2A are eligible to apply for admission to the PhD or Doctor of Education programmes.
MASTER OF EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT
The length depends on the nature of the study, but as a general criterion it should normally be no more than 20,000 words excluding the appendix. The minor thesis will be examined by two relevant academics, one internal and one external to the University of Melbourne, neither of whom is a supervisor for the thesis. See the General Information section at the front of this manual for a list.
All candidates wishing to study in Higher Education should first consult the Postgraduate Coordinator of the Center for the Study of Higher Education, Associate Professor Margaret Powles.
MASTER OF EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY
After admission, a candidate must follow further studies for a minimum of one and a maximum of two academic years, or for a minimum of two and a maximum of four academic years as a part-time student, unless a candidate has approved a different application period by the Academic Council on the recommendation of the faculty. After confirmation of the results at the end of the academic year, the enrollments of certain students are assessed as follows. Each candidate must obtain faculty approval for his or her proposed studies at the beginning of each year.
A master's degree in educational psychology can be obtained by a student who has fulfilled the prescribed conditions and passed the subjects of the course listed below.
MASTER OF TESOL
489 AA is the course code for the MA in TESOL with a minor thesis and thesis. Candidates in the TESOL master's study study full-time for at least two academic years or at least four academic years part-time. The MA in TESOL may be awarded to a student who has met the prescribed requirements and completed the course subjects as listed below.
Students must undertake a combination of the following compulsory and elective subjects, followed by a minor thesis of 16,000 to 20,000 words (50 marks) to accumulate 200 marks.

Content: This course presents an overview of the theoretical developments that have shaped the field of educational administration. Assessment: A paper of approximately 8,000 words on a topic approved by the lecturer, requiring the student to demonstrate achievement of the seminar objectives. Case studies may include the review of VCE (1997), student pathways, vocational education and training in schools, the NSW HSC review of the Education Reform Act in Britain (1988) and higher education funding in Australia (from the introduction of HECS to the Western Review).
Assessment: A 4,000-word paper demonstrating an appropriate level of understanding of the objectives as applied to a specific problem or issue (100 percent).
