NEWSLETTER 2019/2020
Issue 3 - February 2020
A month since our last newsletter went out and what a month it has been. The weather extremes of the Australian climate have been in full force, from 40 degree heat to torrential rain and storms. The onset of rain whilst very disruptive to our season cannot be begrudged in assisting to fill our dams, break the drought somewhat and put out the bushfires.
As you are all aware we have missed another 3 weeks of competition due to the forces of nature and the University closing our oval for all use. We are hopeful of getting back on the track this coming Friday for the last 2 weeks of competition and with that comes the challenge of getting the lines marked. With all the heat, rain and humidity the grass has overgrown our lines thus the need to have it totally remarked to see out the season.
We will be holding an extra competition day on SATURDAY 7th March, commencing at 3pm. Please see page 2 of our newsletter for full details.
With the inability to complete all competition weeks this has meant a modification to the calculations for end of season awards. Athletes should ensure they have competed in at least 50% of all available events since the Christmas break to be eligible and we only have 2 weeks left to achieve this.
Region Championships have been held since our last newsletter and I congratulate all 60 athletes who were eligible to participate. 57 competed in what can only be described as extreme conditions such that the championships were postponed on Saturday due to heat and humidity and then run for 12 hours on Sunday amidst the heat, wind and torrential rain to complete the program. Our Centre athletes won 13 gold medals, 8 silver and 10 bronze and we had 13 automatically qualify for the State Championships in March with another 11 who have qualified as the “next best 8 performances” across all Regions. Again a big shout out to all our parents and siblings who supported the kids in these trying times as well as to those who officiate, we couldn’t have done it without you all. A special thanks to our Championships Officer Belinda who was writing updates to the event program until 1am and still backed up on the Sunday for the whole day.
A small subcommittee of the General Committee is working on plans for the Centre’s 40th anniversary celebrations to be held on 20th March 2020 at Revesby Workers’ Club.
If you or any of our parents are ex-athletes or know someone who is please let us know, we would love to have a sizeable gathering to celebrate this auspicious milestone in the Club’s history. We are also looking for old photos, newsletters, results books, certificates etc. to mount a display table.
Until next newsletter…

MAY
We have our AGM coming up on Monday 11th May in the function rooms at Revesby Workers Club. Commencing at 7.30pm with supper to follow. All committee positions will be elected for the 2020/2021 season. We would love to have more of our parent community involved in the running of our centre. Parents can get involved by joining our general committee, which involves attending committee meetings and having a say on the running of our centre and being involved in your child’s sport. We will also be presenting our Annual Report and encourage parents to come along and find out what we have achieved this season and what our plans and aspirations are for next season. You don’t have to join the committee to be able to attend the AGM, it is open to all. Even if you don’t want to join the committee, we welcome you to come along to show support for our current committee to acknowledge their hard work and dedication.
