2013 NSW Little Athletics Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Angus McEntyre Sydney Pacific Athletic Club’s Throws Coach and Vice- President, who was presented with the ‘2013 NSW Little Athletics Coach of the Year’ award at a ceremony at the 2014 NSW Little Athletics Championships at SOPAC last Saturday.

This award is an annual award of the NSW Branch of the Australian Track & Field Coaches Association (ATFCA) in association with Little Athletics NSW (LAANSW).

Angus coaches all throws events (javelin, discus, shot put and hammer), hurdles and sprints at clubs and schools including the Sydney Pacific Athletic Club (Turramurra Oval), the Ku ring gai Little Athletics Centre, the Mosman Little Athletics Centre and Barker College. He is also a Strength & Conditioning Coach.

At the recent 2014 NSW Little Athletics Championships Angus’ athletes competed in a range of age groups and events. The results achieved by these athletes included many PBs and:

1 Gold Medal: U15 Boys Javelin (Cameron McEntyre: LAANSW State Record holder and Little Athletics Australia all time best performance)

2 Silver Medals: U9 Boys Shot Put and U9 Boys Discus (both to Harry Anderson (K))

2 Bronze Medals: U12 Boys Discus (Tyrese Vidal (K)); U17 Girls Javelin (Georgia Swinton)

6, 4th-8th positions in finals: U11 Girls Discus (Jada Powell (K)); U15 Boys 100m Hurdles (Caelan Shaw); U15 Boys Javelin (Caelan Shaw); U15 Boys Shot Put (Nick Chatters); 2 in the U15 Boys Discus (Cameron McEntyre and Nick Chatters).

Angus is a former NSW All Schools Discus Champion (2008 & 2009), won Bronze in the 2008 NSW All Schools Decathlon, and Bronze in the Pole Vault at the 2008 Pacific Schools Games.

He learned the finer skills of Discus, Shot and Javelin throwing at a young age at Turramurra Oval with the former and now retired Sydney Pacific Throws Coach Paul van Koesveld.

Angus has trained for over a decade at Turramurra Oval with Warren Martin, the recently retired Sydney Pacific Sprints, Hurdles and Conditioning Coach and the 2004 NSW Little Athletics Coach of the Year. For his throws events, Angus is coached by and also works with Peter Lawler OAM.

Angus was a regular SYP competitor in the 2013 ANSW Treloar Shield competition. He teamed up with his younger brothers Lachlan and Cameron and Andries van Woerkom to win the Silver Medal in the Men’s Open Javelin at the 2013 NSW State Relay Championships.

Angus is a very keen rugby player and has played with the Eastwood Rugby Club for the past three seasons where he has scored over 350 points. He is a full time student in the Masters of Chiropractic Science program at Macquarie University.
