3. Each member of the academic staff shall serve in accordance with the terms of this statute and their employment contract. 4 Any person who is appointed for the first time as a member of the academic staff, other than as a professor, is appointed in the first instance for a period of four years, unless the Council determines otherwise in a particular case. Any such person who is thereafter further appointed as ~ member of the academic staff, and any professor shall, subject to the provisions of Articles 7, 9 and.

7 (a) If, in the opinion of the Council, a member of the academic staff is unable to perform the duties of his office due to physical or mental illness:. 8 No member of the academic staff shall take up any outside employment, regular or casual, without the permission of the Council. 12 (I) Every member of the academic staff must conscientiously perform the duties required of him by law.

The Council may and, if requested by the member concerned or any three members of the Council, may refer the complaint or report to a Commission of Inquiry. 16 Pending the determination of the case, the Council, if deemed necessary in the best interest of the University, may temporarily suspend the member from office without loss of salary. 18 No person who initiates or makes a complaint or report to the Vice-Chancellor shall be present during the consideration by the Council of that complaint or report or of any report of the Commission of Inquiry thereon.

4 Appointments of non-professional members of the academic staff and of teaching staff (apart from academic staff) are made by the chancellor on the recommendation of the appointment committee set up for the purpose. Any such recommendation by the hiring committee to the principal shall include a statement of the starting salary applicable to any such recommended hiring.

5 When a vacancy occurs in the office of manager, the council appoints a manager on the recommendation of the vice-chancellor and in accordance with the provisions of these statutes. The principal responsibilities of the manager are as determined by the council from time to time. In recommending the appointment of a manager to the Council, the Vice-Chancellor must apply for nomination by the Board.

9 Where a Council decides to appoint a candidate for appointment as Head by election, the election shall be held in accordance with procedures established by the Council and with the following provisions: (a) a candidate for election shall be an employee of the University and member of the academic staff of the relevant faculty; University faculty members.; ii) all persons with full academic status within the faculty. The Council, upon the recommendation of the Vice Chancellor, shall appoint a selection committee to evaluate all such candidates.

11 Subject to the provisions of Clause I 0, to be eligible for nomination as Head, a person must be an employee of the University and a member of the academic staff of the relevant faculty. 14 On the recommendation of the Council, the Vice-Chancellor may appoint a Deputy Head to assist the Head and act for the Head if the Head is unavailable or unable to act. 18 (I) The Council shall be constituted in such a way that it includes as members -. a) the Vice-Chancellor ex officio;.

19 (I) The elected members of the Board shall hold office for -. a) in the case of staff members, two years;. 21 The Chairman shall call a special meeting of the Board upon written request of three members. The special meeting shall be held within fourteen days of receipt of such request.

22 Each Board shall regulate its own procedures, which shall include determining a quorum for Board meetings. Powers of the Board 23 The Board will -. a) contribute to the development of the academic policies of the University by giving advice to the Council through the Academic Senate; ·. b) to define policies in the areas of authority given to a faculty; The Registrar of the Faculty will answer to the head and director of administration and the registrar for the administration of the faculty.
