Clear and Unclear Pronoun Reference
কােনা Sentence এ Pronoun ট য Noun এর পিরবেত ববহার করা
হে তা করা খুবই জির। Pronoun এর Noun ক ভােব
িনেদশ করার িনয়মই হে Clear Pronoun Reference.
িক! অেনক সময় দখা যায় কােনা Sentence এ একািধক Noun থাকেল Pronoun ট কান Noun ক বাঝাে তা বাঝা যায় না।
Example:
I went to a shop to buy a packet of chips, but it didn’t open.
Pronoun Referencing
I went to a shop to buy a packet of chips, but it didn’t open.
এখােন It (Pronoun) ট (ারা Shop ক বাঝােনা হেয়েছ নািক Packet of Chips ক বাঝােনা হেয়েচ তা পির+ার নয়। দাকান খােলিন নািক িচপেসর পােকট খােলিন তা পির+ারভােব বুঝা যােনা।
কান Sentence এ এধরেণর Pronoun এর অতােক বলা হয় Unclear Pronoun Reference.
Pronoun Reference এর িনয়ম-েলা স.েক জানার আেগ আেসা
দেখ নই Number ও Person অনুযায়ী Pronoun এর ববহার।
Rules of Pronoun Referencing
Rule 1 : Singular Noun এর সােথ Singular Pronoun ববহার করেত হেব।
Incorrect: Everyone is trying their best to win the match এখােন “their” Pronoun টর আেগ বসা Noun ট হেলা
Everyone, যা একট Singular word। তাই “their” এর পিরবেত
“his/her” বসেব।
“his/her” বসেব।
Correct: Everyone is trying his best to win the match.
Rule 2 : দুট Singular Noun যিদ “and” ারা যু থােক, তখন তােদর পিরবেত Plural Pronoun ববহার হয়|
Incorrect: Jaman & Kiron are very serious about his studies.
Correct: Jaman & Kiron are very serious about their studies.
Rule 3: Pronoun সবসময় তার ঠক আেগর Noun টর Person অনুযায়ী বসেব।
Incorrect: If you want to make a good result, we must study hard.
Sentence ট Incorrect. কননা Pronoun এর আেগর Noun ট হেলা 2nd person. তাই Pronoun িহেসেব “We” এর পিরবেত “You” বসেব।
Correct: If you want to maintain a good health, you must walk in the morning.
Rule 4: “Who” যখন Relative Pronoun িহেসেব ববহার হয়,

Incorrect: It is Mr. Kamal which works in a bank.

িহেসেব বাবহার হয় তখন তা কান ব'/(ািণেক িনেদশ কের।
Incorrect: Doel is a beautiful bird who is also the national bird of Bangladesh.
Correct: Doel is a beautiful bird which/that is also the national bird of Bangladesh.
Rule 5: Singular noun এর পূেব যিদ “Every/Each” শ$%েলা
থােক তেব এেদর পিরবেত Singular Pronoun বসেব।
Incorrect: Every Doctor & every Nurse should do their duty.
Correct: Every Doctor & every Nurse should do his duties.
Rule 6: দুট Singular Noun যিদ Either….or বা Neither …nor বা
or ারা যু থােক তেব এেদর পিরবেত Singular Noun ববহার হেব ।
হেব ।
Incorrect: Either Rina or Mina will complete their work Correct: Either Rina or Mina will complete her work
িক#, একট Singular Noun ও একট Plural যিদ nor বা or ারা
যু থােক তেব এেদর পিরবেত Plural Noun ববহার হেব ।
Incorrect: Either the teachers or the Headmaster has succeeded in his attempt.
Correct: Either the teachers or the Headmaster have succeeded in their attempt.
Rule 7: (Pronoun Order) যখন িবিভ- Person যমন 1st, 2nd, 3rd Person একসােথ কান কাজ কের, Pronoun
%েলা িলখার /ে0 (231) িনয়মট অনুসরণ করেত হেব।
অথ াৎ, (থেম 3rd Person, তারপর 2nd Person এরপর 1st Person হেব।
Incorrect: I, you and he are friends Correct: You, he and I are friends
িক# দাষ 3ীকার করার /ে0, (123) িনয়মট অনুসরণ
িক# দাষ 3ীকার করার /ে0, (123) িনয়মট অনুসরণ করেত হেব। অথ াৎ, (থেম 1st Person, তারপর 2nd Person এরপর 3rd Person হেব।
Incorrect: He, you and I made the mistake Correct: I, you and he made the mistake.
Rule 8: Collective Noun যিদ একসােথ কাজ করেছ বাঝায় তেব Singular Pronun ববহার হয়।
The jury has decided its judgement.
এখােন , Jury এর সবাই একে3 িস4া5 িনেয়েছ। তাই Single Pronoun ববহার হেয়েছ।
িক! যিদ একে3 কাজ করেছনা বা

িক!, Collective Noun যিদ একে3 কাজ করেছনা বা
তােদর মেধ িবভ67 বাঝা যায়, তেব অবশই Plural Noun ববহার হেব।

এখােন , Jury এর সবাই আলাদা আলাদা িস4াে5 ভাগ
হেয় িগেয়েছ , তাই Plural Pronoun ববহার করা হেয়েছ।
Difference between Unclear and Clear pronoun Referencing
কান Sentence এ Noun এর পিরবেত যা ববহার হয় তাই হেলা Pronoun। কান Sentence এ Pronoun ববহার করেল তা 8িতমধুর হয়। িক! অেনক সময় কােনা Sentence এ একািধক Noun থাকেল Pronoun ট কান Noun ক
িনেদশ করেছ তা বাঝা যায় না। িনেচর Sentence ট ল9 কেরা;
I went to the shop to buy popcorn, but it didn’t open.
এখােন It (Pronoun) ট (ারা কান Noun টেক বাঝােনা হেয়েছ তা িক!
নয়। Shop ট Open না হেত পাের আবার Popcorn এর পােকটটও Open না হেয় পাের। Sentence এ Pronoun এর এই ধরেণর অতােক বলা হয় Unclear Pronoun reference।

Pronoun Reference এর িনয়ম-েলা স.েক জানার আেগ আেসা দেখ নই Number ও Person অনুযায়ী Pronoun এর ববহার।

Rule No 1
Pronoun সবসময় তার আেগর Noun টর Number অনুযায়ী বসেব।
Incorrect: Everyone is trying their best to win the match
এখােন “their” – Pronoun টর আেগ বসা Noun ট হেলা Every
এখােন “their” – Pronoun টর আেগ বসা Noun ট হেলা Every one, যা একট Singular word। তাই উপেরর Sentence এ “their”
এর পিরবেত “his/her” বসেব।
Correct: Everyone is trying his best to win the match.
Rule No 2
Pronoun সবসময় তার আেগর Noun টর Person অনুযায়ী বসেব।
Incorrect: If you want to maintain good health, we must walk in the morning.

“Who” শ<ট যখন Relative Pronoun িহেসেব ববহার হয় তখন তা

Correct: Messi is someone who scores goals on a regular basis.

িহেসেব বাবহার হয় তখন তা কান ব'/(ািণেক িনেদশ কের।
Incorrect: Doel is a beautiful bird who is also the national bird of Bangladesh.
Correct: Doel is a beautiful bird which/that is also the national bird of Bangladesh.
Rule No 4
দুট Singular Noun যিদ “and” ারা যু থােক তেব তােদর পিরবেত য Pronoun ট ববহার হয় তা Plural হেব।
Incorrect: Sourav & Ridwan are very serious about his studies.
Correct: Sourav & Ridwan are very serious about their studies.

দুট Singular Noun যিদ Either….or বা Neither …nor বা or

Collective Noun যিদ একসােথ কাজ করেছ বাঝায় তেব Singular Noun ববহার হয়।

Trade or commerce, science or technology everything in the world is unthinkable the help of computer. We must take the advantage of it. No one can keep pace with the fast changing world without getting this. But one can keep pace with the fast changing world without getting this.
