Average annual production growth is 4% and growth has always been positive. This positive trend can also be seen in domestic consumption, from 3.4 million ton consumption in 2001 to 3.8 million ton in 2005 (10% increase). Consumption increase was bigger than production increase for the same period. However, in average, consumption increase was only 3%, 1% smaller than the annual average of production growth.

Indonesia annual average export is 2.3 million ton with annual growth of 11%. Although export figure is quite high, Indonesia imports 788 thousand ton of pulp in average yearly from other countries. Moreover, import growth is bigger than export growth, which is about 14% yearly. This import growth figure was still positive althouh in 2003 Indonesia import declined 8% frrom 830 thousand ton in 2002 to 760 thousand ton in 2003.
