Indonesia export proportion of compared to ammonium sulphate export is very small because its production is focused more to satisfy domestic consumption. On the other side, there is an excess in demand because domestic demand surpasses domestic supply that Indonesia has to import a significant amount of Ammonium Sulphate, especially from Korea, Russia and Japan. Indonesia import proportion is able to satisfy 33% of domestic demand in average with a positive trend. Import in Indonesia in year 200 was 137 thousand ton and turned to 172 thousand ton in 2005.

Production still has a positive trend during 2000-2005. Growth during this period was 31%, increasing as much as 153 thousand ton, from 491 thousand ton in year 2000 to 644 thousand ton in year 2005. Production growth average was 6%. In 2002 and 2003, production decreased due to lack of gas supply for Ammonium Sulphate factories. Globally, Ammonium Sulphate production share showed a slight increase, from 13% in 2000 to 15% in 2005, although in 2002 there was a 1% decline (12% share). All domestic production was used to satisfy domestic demand during 2000-2005 which surpassed domestic production the whole time. Domestic consumption increased during those 5 years, from 621 thousand ton in 2000 to 653 thousand ton in 2005 with average growth of 2% or equal to 9.3 thousand ton per year. Increase in domestic consumption was caused by increase in the need for ammonium sulphate per field area due to declining land fertility.
Indonesia still has a good prospect for Ammonium Sulphate market since domestic need has a positive trend with a level higher than domestic consumption. Therefore, capacity production of ammonium sulphate needs to be expanded
