THE EFFECT OF THE CROSWORDS PUZLE ON THE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AT THE SECOND GRADE OF SMP

MUHAMMADIYAH PALANGKA RAYA ABSTRACT

The researh aim to measure the effect of the crosswords puzzle on the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.

The study included in quantitative research with Quasy Experimental Design.The writer designed the lesson plan, conducted the treatment and counted the students’ score by pretest and posttest. The population of study was the second grade at SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Rayawhich consisted of ten classes. The writer took the sample of two classes are VIII-2 as control group and VIII-1 as experimental group . The sample were determined using cluster sampling technique.

After getting the data were from pre-test and post-test, the writer analyzed the data using SPSS 16. Program to test the hypothesis stated based on the result of analysis, it was found that the value of ttest = 2,93 with ttable=2,02 at 5% level of significance and ttable=2.69 at 1% level of significance with degrees of freedom=70. It showed that the ttest was higher than the ttable. The result of testing hypothesis determined that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) stating that there was significant effect of crosswords puzzle on the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Rayawas accepted and the Null Hypothesis (Ho) stating that there was no crosswords puzzle on the students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Rayawas rejected. It meant that crosswords puzzle gave effect to increase on the students’ vocabulary mastery it showed from post test score’s students’ at the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya

PENGARUH TEKATEKI SILANG PENGUASAAN KOSA KATA PADA SISWA KELAS DUA SMP MUHAMMAIYAH PALANGKA RAYA

ABSTRAK

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur apakah ada pengaruh yang berarti dalam menggunakan teka teki silang dalam pembelajaran teks deskriptif terhadap kosa kata yang dimiliki siswa kelas dua SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.

Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain Kuasi Eksperimental. Penulis menyusunrencana pembelajaran, memberikan perlakuan dan menghitung skor siswa dengan Pra-uji dan Pasca-uji. Populasi dari studi ini adalah murid kelas delapan SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya yang tediri dari 6 kelas. Penulis memilih dua kelas yaitu VIII-2 sebagai kelas kontrol dan VIII-1 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Sampel tersebut ditentukan dengan tekni

Kluster Sampel.

Setelah mendapatkan data dari Pra-uji dan Pasca-uji, penulis menganalisis data tersebut menggunakan rumus ttest untuk menguji hipotesis yang telah ditetapkan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan bahwa nilai dari ttes= 2,93 dan ttabel= 2,02 pada taraf signifikansi 5% dan ttabel= 2.69 pada taraf signifikansi 1% dengan derajat kebebasan=70. Hasil dari penelitian ini menerapkan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimental. Penulis menyusun Rencana data analisis menunjukkan bahwa tobserved=0,879 lebih tinggi dari ttable=2.02 and 2.69. Hasil dari Pengujian Hipotesis menentukan bahwa Hipotesis Alternatif (Ha) yang menyatakan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan oleh teka teki silang dalam penguasan kata yang dimiliki siswa kelas delapan SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya telah diterima dan Hipotesis Nihil yang menyatakan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh yang signifikan oleh teka teki silang dalam penguasan kata yang dimiliki siswa kelas delapan SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya telah ditolak. Ini artinya bahwa teka teki silang memberikan penggaruh terhadap penguasaan kosa kata siswa yang dapat dilihat dari nilai pos tes seluruh siswa kelas delapan SMP Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.
