Figure 10.1 shows the apparatus for the
separation of solution of water and ethanol. The equipment needed for the experiment consists of the following: a bunsen burner, a florence flask, a thermometer, a condensor and a beaker.
First, set up the experiment as in Figure 10.1.
Place a solution of 30cc water and 20cc ethanol in the florence flask. Heat the solution.

How the Volume of an Irregular Solid is Measured
To determine the density of a solid,
1.Obtain two or three pieces of the solid. 2.Weight the pieces.
3.Partly fill a graduated cylinder with water, and note the water level.
4.Place the pieces in the graduated cylinder.
6. Calculate the volume of water displaced by the solid.
