PUTRI WIDYAWATI. Pengujian Perilaku Predator dan Anti-Predator pada Ikan Lele Dumbo (Clarias gariepinus Burchell, 1822) Transgenik F3. Dibimbing oleh DARMA BAKTI, DESRITA, dan HURIA MARNIS.
Ikan lele dumbo (Clarias gariepinus) transgenik F3 yang mengandung gen hormon pertumbuhan ikan patin siam (PhGH) bisa tumbuh 2 kali lebih cepat dari ikan lele normal dalam kondisi budidaya. Namun, sebelum ikan lele dumbo transgenik dilepaskan dan dimanfaatkan, dampak genetik terhadap lingkungan alam harus diperiksa. Penghindaran predator merupakan salah satu ciri utama yang menentukan ketahanan terhadap resiko lingkungan. Untuk menentukan kemampuan dalam menghindari predator dan mengetahui parameter pertumbuhan ikan lele dumbo transgenik, ditebar 35 ekor/akuarium ikan lele dumbo transgenik F3 dan non-transgenik dengan pemberian makanan tambahan. Ikan lele dumbo dengan panjang rata-rata 4,49 ± 0,27 cm dan bobot rata-rata 0,79 ± 0,14 g ditebar sebagai predator. Ikan lele dumbo non-transgenik memiliki mekanisme penghindaran terhadap predator yang lebih baik daripada ikan lele dumbo transgenik. Tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam parameter pertumbuhan antara ikan lele dumbo transgenik F3 dan ikan lele dumbo non-transgenik di akuarium dengan pemberian makanan tambahan. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ikan lele dumbo transgenik dapat digunakan untuk budidaya komersial tanpa mempengaruhi lingkungan, karena genotipe dari ikan transgenik akan menurun atau bahkan hilang.

African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) transgenic F3 containing Pangasius hypotha lmus growth hormone (PhGH) genes can growth twice the average weight of the control population. However, before transgenic African catfish are released and utilized, their genetic impact on the natural environment must be examined. Predator avoidance is one of the major fitness traits determining potential environment risk. To determine the predator avoidance ability and growth performance of transgenic African catfish, various densities of transgenic and non-transgenic African catfish were communally stocked in 35/aquarium without supplemental feeding. The average length of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) range between 4,49 ± 0,27 cm and the average weight range between 0,79 ± 0,14 g were stocked as predators. Non-trangenic African catfish had better predator avoidance than transgenic African catfish. There was no significant difference in growth performance between transgenic and non-transgenic African catfish in aquarium without supplemental feeding. This findings indicate that transgenic African catfish could be used for commercial aquaculture without affecting the natural environment because the increased susceptibility of transgenic African catfish to predators would most likely decrease or eliminate the transgenic genotype.
