About the topic/technology
Building construction is one of the largest industries in the United States. Commercial and instuitional construction alone was valued at over $242 Billion, and employed over 716,000 workers, as of 2002 (according to the U.S. Census Bureau). With a book in residential construction and renewed strength in commercial construction, there is a chronic shortage of skilled personnel.
In addition to laborers, the construction industry needs designers, specifiers, engineers, and managers. The tasks involved in the construction process includes planning, contracting, documentation, estimating, and scheduling, even before the erection of a structure begins. The training of skilled construction workers who possess all of the management skills are in great demand.

About the book
Introduction to Construction: From Inception to Evaluation is a primer for all people entering the construction industry and related disciplines. Following a chronological approach to the building process, the reader is introduced to the technical and management aspects, offering a broad view of the industry as well as specific tasks needed to complete a project.
Using an easy-to-read, conversational writing style, Ralph Liebing distills the often complex procedures in the construction of architecture into understandable concepts.
Connecting each process to the next, whether documentation with the bidding process, or the delivery system with the scheduling, the author clearly explains the flow of work on a typical construction project.
No other survey offers such as broad look at the entire building process as demonstrated in a typical commercial construction project.
