Vocabulary is the first step for students to learn English. Therefore, vocabulary is introduced from Elementary School to give more times to learn English. Meanwhile, the students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus also have some problems in learning vocabulary. They are still poor in vocabulary,when the teacher asks to the students about the meaning of the name of fruit, they do not understand about the meaning. To solve the problem, the writer uses Word Clap Game. Word clap game is a game that uses claps with callaboration with the other students. By using Word Clap Game, the students in knowing or recognizing a word and the meaning it self by Word Clap Game. Based on the background above, the writer would like to do a research entitled “The Vocabulary Mastery of the Fifth Grade Students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in Academic Year 2015/2016 Taught by Using Word Clap Game”.
This research has a purpose of this research to find out the answer from the statement of the problem. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is significant difference of English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Word Clap Game.
This research is quasi experimentalresearch. The subject of the research all of students of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak which consist of 22 students. The instrument of the research was a multiple choice test given to the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus.
The result of this research shows that (i) the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before being taught by using word clap game is sufficient. (Mean = 60.05, Standard Deviation = 18.78) (ii) the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 after being taught by using word clap game is Excellent. (Mean = 81.18, Standard Deviation = 25.38) (iii) there is a significant difference between the vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Word Clap Game. The calculation of t-test 4.296 with level of significant 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) 21 which is gained N-1, t-table is 2.080. It is concluaded that there is significant difference the English vocabulary mastery of the fifth grade students of SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus in academic year 2015/2016 before and after being taught by using Word Clap Game.

Considering the result of this research, the writer suggests that the English teacher should be more creative and innovative in selecting the suitable methods and media in teaching learning process. Word Clap Game can be used as alternative media to teach English vocabulary. In fact, Word Clap Game can effective for teaching English vocabulary mastery. Besides, the students should more active during teaching learning process.

Kosakata adalah langkah pertama bagi siswa untuk belajar Bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, kosakata harus diperkenalkan sejak Sekolah Dasar untuk memberikan waktu lebih belajar Bahasa Inggris. Sementara itu, siswa-siswi SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak memiliki masalah dalam pembelajran kosakata. Mereka masih kurang baik dalam dalam penguasaan kosakata, ketika guru meminta kepada siswa tentang arti nama buah mereka tidak mengerti maknanya. Permainan kata tepuk tangan adalah permainan bertepuk tangan dengan kaloborasi bersama siswa lain. Dengan menggunakan permainan tepuk tangan, siswa dapat mengenali atau mengetahui sebuah kata dan makna itu sendiri. Berdasarkan latar belakang diatas, penulis ingin melakukan penelitian berjudul “Penguasaan Kosakata Bahasa Ingris siswa kelas lima di SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus Tahun Akademik 2015/2016 diajar menggunakan Permainan Kata Tepuk Tangan”.
Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk menemukan apakah ada perbedaan yang bearti dari penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas lima SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan menggunakan permainan kata tepuk tangan dalam tahun ajaran 2015/2016.
Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian quasi(pura-pura) eksperiman. Subjek penelitian ini adalah semua kelas lima di SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak yang terdiri dari 22 siswa. Instrument penelitian adalah test yang diberikan kepada siswa kelas lima SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (i) penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas lima SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus tahun ajaran 2015/2016 sebelum diajar menggunakan permainan tepuk tangan adalah cukup (rata-rata=60.05, standar deviasi= 18.78) (ii) penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris siswa kelas lima SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus tahun ajaran 2015/2016 setelah diajar menggunakan permainan kata tepuk tangan adalah baik sekali (rata-rata=81.18, standar deviasi=25.38) (iii) ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata kelas lima SD N 1 Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus tahun ajaran 2015/2016 sebelum dan setelah diajar menggunakan permainan kata tepuk tangan. Perhitungan t-test dengan tingkat signifikan 0.05 dan derajat kebebasan (df) 21 yang di peroleh N-1, t-tabel 2.080. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam penguasaan kosakata Bahasa Inggris kelas lima SD N 1

Tumpangkrasak Jati Kudus di tahun ajaran 2015/2016 sebelum dan setelah diajar menggunakan permainan kata tepuk tangan.
Mempertimbangkan penelitian ini, penulis dapat menyarankan bahwa guru bahasa Inggris sekolah dasar harus lebih kreatif dan innovatif dalam menyelesaikan metode sesuai dan media dalam prosess pembelajaran. Permainan kata tepuk tangan dapat dipakai sebagai media untuk mengajar kosakata bahasa Inggris. Kenyataannya, permainan kata tepuk tangan efektif untuk mengajar kosakata bahasa Inggris. Selain itu, siswa harus lebih aktif selama proses pembelajaran.
