iii ABSTRAK

iv ABSTRACT
Fertility (birth) as a demography term is a real woman reproduction or group of women. In other word it concerns the fertility of many babies born alive. Based on Demography Survey and Indonesia Health (DSIH) 2012, there is nationally stagnation in the total fertility (births) is 2,6, whereas the target of RPJMN for 2010-2014 is 30 births/1.000 women (2,1). The highest fertility rate is found in West Papua for 3,7 and the lowest is in Yogyakarta for 2,1. While in North Sumatera Province is much higher than the national rate that 3,0. Factors that affect the level of fertility are: marital status, age at first marriage, Contraception Prevalence Rate (CPR), unmet need, level of education and economic status.
This research is aimed to find out the factors that affect fertility in North Sumatera Province in 2014. This research is an analytic with cross sectional approach. The research was conducted in 2015 with fertility data is 2014 and the affecting factors of fertility is 2012. The population and sample in this research is all the counties and cities in North Sumatera Province, there are 33 districts/cities. The data analysis in this research is using multiple linear regression analysis that requires such classical assumption.
Simultaneously (F Test) can be known that the comparative results 26,778 > 2,47 (f-calculated > f-table) so that H0 is rejected. Simultaneously it can be concluded that CPR variable only had a significant effect on dependent variable (fertility). T-table value partially known as 2,056, marital status (t-count = -1,360), age at first marriage (t-count = 0,848), unmet need (t-count = -1,482), educational level (t-count = -1,686), economic status (t-count = -1,156) had no a significant effect on fertility, CPR variable (Contraception Prevalence Rate) (t-count = -5,175) had a significant effect on fertility.
The suggestions are needed to the related institutions in North Sumatera Province to consider the significantly the affecting factors on fertility that can minimize the birth rate as targeted and consistent in implementing the program and health promotion for the fertile age couples about “two children are enough”
