THE EFFECTIVENESS OF FOUR CORNERS GAME FOR TEACHING VOCABULARY

(An Experimental Study of the First Grade Students at SMP Negeri 1 Bawang Banjarnegara in the Academic Year 2017/2018)

ABSTRACT

This research intended to know the effectiveness of Four Corner game for teaching vocabulary at the first grade students of SMP N 1 Bawang at the Second Semester in the Academic Year 2017/2018.Using quasi experimental research of the game by focusing on meaning and noun in vocabulary aspects for shopping list material, the writer used two classes (VII C, VII G) of the school to collect data. VII C class to be the experimental class that was taught before studying and doing the Pre-Test and the Post-Test. VII G class was the control class to get the different data without using Four Corner game. The students did pre-test and post-test then the result post-tests were compared with the experimental class. This activity was to know the higher score between the experimental class and the control class. The test consisted of multiple choice and matching test items. After analyzing the data with the computation, test result was 4.868 and the result of t-table at the significant level 0,05 with the degree of freedom 60 was 1.671. The calculation of obtained with table was known that obtained was higher than t-table (4.868 > 1.671). Based on the research result, it was obvious that Four Corner game was effective to teach vocabulary at the school.
