ABSTRACT
efektif.

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background of the Study
A book editor does not only read books but he/she has other tasks to do as well. An article entitled “Book Editor: Education Requirement and Career Information” defines book editors as follows:
Book editors review manuscript and book proposals to decide whether books should be published. They also review and edit drafts and oversee the publication process, working closely with authors to perfect the manuscript. Book editors generally work their way up the ranks of the publishing industry, often starting as editorial assistants (par. 1). Besides, a book editor should love reading books. Deahl in the article entitled “Book Editors How to Become a Book Editor” states “If you love books and love to read, a job as an editor can be a dream come true” (par. 3).
The tasks of a book editor are basically to check the use of
punctuation, correct the texts if there are some misprints (typo), and edit
2
translated books. The most important thing for a book editor is self-discipline. Yeadell-Moore states “Self-discipline is important for a good editor, as is good judgment and, crucially, an ability to express thoughts clearly and succinctly” (par. 6).
When I did my internship at PT. VISI ANUGERAH INDONESIA as an assistant editor, my job description was editing translated book. I had a problem in editing translated books from 08.00 AM to 05.00 PM. I found some difficult words while editing translated a book entitled “Something to Smile”. I only had a little interest in reading books so I could not read books efficiently. Besides, I did not have any experience in editing
translated books. Sometimes I felt bored while editing translated books for long. I tried some techniques to edit translated books, but those
techniques were still unsuccessful for me. As a result, I choose the topic about handling my difficulty in doing my job as an assistant editor of translated books for my term paper. Hopefully, by analyzing this problem critically and systematically, some solutions can be found.
B. Identification of the Problem
The problem I am going to discuss in this paper is expressed in the following questions:
1. Why was my job as an assistant editor of translated books difficult? 2. How did the problem affect me as an assistant editor?
3. How should the problem be solved?
3
C. Objectives and Benefits of the Study
By writing this term paper, I will be able to identify the causes and effects of my problem, so that I could handle my difficulty in doing my job as an assistant editor of translated books. I will always try to find the best solution to handle the problem. As a result, not only me, but also other book editors at PT. VISI ANUGERAH INDONESIA and readers in general, will know how to handle this problem.
D. Description of the Institution
PT. VISI ANUGERAH INDONESIA was officially established on December 8, 1996 by its founder, Ir. Ichwan S. Chahyadi, M.Sc. It was originally located on Jalan Kebonjati No. 88 blok C-18 Bandung, but now the location is on Jalan Karasak Lama No.2 Bandung (Soekarno-Hatta). Based on the information I obtained from “VISI-BOOKSTORE” website, PT. VISI ANUGERAH INDONESIA is a company which is engaged in the service of Christian literature, especially Christian books which serve many people from various Christian denominations.
The vision of PT. VISI ANUGERAH INDONESIA is “Being the best Christian company that transforms the lives of people in Indonesia.” The mission is:
1. Being a Christian bookstore that has the most complete products and best services;
2. Having network with agencies/organizations to serve the needs of Christian spiritual products throughout Indonesia;
4
3. Publishing valuable books of faith in Christ that can restore a relationship with God, self and others;
4. Creating unique products, innovative, and with value of life transformation;
5. Providing a means of training and human resource development as well as career counseling and family counseling;
6. Creating a community that embodies the creativity of youth and the elderly through a variety of activities that have a spirit of life;
7. Serving people and Christian institutions that are not able to support themselves through social mission.
E. Method of the Study
I did both library and field research to do this study. As for the data from library research, I read books and articles from the library and the Internet to have some valid theories to support my analysis, while the field
research is based on my observation, which is recorded in my journal.
F. Limitation of the Study
The subject of my study is myself when handling my difficulty in doing my job as an assistant editor of translated books. In this term paper, I am going to analyze the causes of having difficulty in doing my job as an assistant editor of translated books, the effects of this problem, and the potential solutions to solve this problem.

G. Organization of the Term Paper
The paper begins with Abstract, a summary of the paper in Indonesian. It is followed by Declaration of Originality, Acknowledgements, and Table of Contents. The major content of this term paper consists of four
chapters. The first chapter is Introduction, which is divided into seven parts. The first part is Background of the Study. This part describes the reasons for selecting the topic and the explanation of my problem. It is followed by Identification of the Problem, which explains the situation and problems analyzed in the paper. The third part is Objectives and Benefits of the Study. In this part, I state the objectives to be achieved at the end of the term paper and the benefits for institution that have become the object of study, for the readers, and for me. The fourth part is Description of the Institution. This part gives information about the history of the institution, vision, mission, object and place of study, and work areas. The fifth part is Method of the Study. This part explains the data collection. The sixth part is Limitation of the Study. It presents the limitation of research coverage as the subject under study. The seventh part is the Organization of the Term Paper, which informs of the parts of this term paper.
The second chapter is Problem Analysis. This chapter analyzes the causes and the effects of the problem, which become the topic of this term paper. The third chapter is Potential Solutions. In this chapter, I discuss some solutions to handle this problem together with the positive and negative effects of each solution. The last chapter is Conclusion. In this chapter, I will mention the best solution in the form of a single solution or a
6
combination of three potential solutions with logical reasons as a result of the analysis in the previous two chapters.
At the end of this paper, there are Bibliography, which mentions the sources of the theories, and Appendices, which consist of a flowchart, a sample of a translated book, a company profile, and my internship journal.
