Students’ Perception of Using Schoology in Argumentative Writing Class

Abstract
Technology has been used as the medium of teaching and learning. A previous study from Sumakul (2013) found that social networking website brought positive effect in language learning. Based on the previous study, this study used Schoology as the subject of the research. According to Biswas (2013) Schoology is an online platform that provides a new style for the teachers to deliver material and facilitate learning. Furthermore, it can be inferred that it provides a new way of learning for the students to engage and intensify their own learning. Therefore, this study is aimed at finding out the students’ perceptions of using Schoology in an argumentative writing class. Dörnyei (2001) argues that perception has a big role in determining success or failure in any learning situation. In other words, the study wanted to evaluate the use of schoology as the medium of learning in an argumentative writing class. Argumentative writing class was chosen due to its high and active users of schoology. The data were gathered through face to face and online interview with 10 participants from 2014’s batch. In the interview, the protocol was taken from Song et al. (2004).The findings showed the significance of using Schoology in Argumentative Writing class.
