ABSTRACT
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF CSW (Catch, Speak, and Write) GAME FOR TEACHING DESCRIPTIVE WRITING

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of CSW (catch, speak, and write) game for teaching descriptive writing at SMP Negeri 1 Kutasari in academic year 2013-2014.
This research was a quasi-experiment. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Kutasari. There were eight classes which consist of 32-35 students, so the total numbers of the students were 275. In this research, there were two classes that were taken as the sample. Class VII G as the control class and class VII H as the experiment class. The treatment was done from 14th - 30th April 2014 at SMP Negeri 1 Kutasari. The writer used test (pre-test and post-(pre-test) to collect the data, and t-(pre-test was used to analyze the data.
In this research, the data were analyzed by using computation to know the effectiveness of CSW (catch, speak, and write) game. The result was that t-test higher than t-table. The result showed that the pre-test’s mean score of experiment class was 47. 65, while the pre-test’s mean of control class was 47. 32. The
