It is our great privilege to welcome you to the 2015 International Conference
on Automation, Cognitive Science, Optics, Micro Electro-Mechanical System, and
Information Technology (ICACOMIT 2015) held in Bandung, West Java,
Indonesia, October 29 - 30, 2015. ICACOMIT 2015 is organized by Research
Group of Technical Implementation Unit for Instrumentation Development,
Indonesian Institute of Sciences (UPT BPI-LIPI) and Technical Co-sponsored by
the IEEE Indonesia Control Systems Society (CSS) & Robotics and Automation
Society (RAS) Joint Chapter. We are confident that ICACOMIT 2015 will provide
a forum for fruitful interaction and exchange of ideas between the participants
coming from around the world. The aim of these international conferences is to
promote interaction among engineers, researchers, and scientists active in the
related areas of the conferences. The events are intended to provide a high level
international forum to exchange, and to discuss recent advances in the field of
automation, cognitive science, optics, micro electro-mechanical system, and
information technology.
No conference can be successful without excellent teamwork. Our special
appreciations go to the sacrifices and perspirations of our colleagues and
organizing committee members. Our special thanks also goes to all individuals and

Abstract- Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an emerging non-invasive brain imaging technique and measures brain activities by means of near-infrared light of 650-950 nm wavelengths. The major advantages of fNIRS are its low cost, portability, and good temporal resolution as a plausible solution to real-time imaging. Recent research had showed the great potential of fNIRS as a tool for brain-computer interfaces. The general linear model (GLM) is most popular and is a common method for analysis of functional MRI data, but it has certain limitations in the case of optical signals. In this talk, the existing methods for fNIRS signals are reviewed and some recent advances are discussed. Some examples of brain-machine interfaces are also illustrated.
Smart Needle System for Robotics Surgery

Abstract- The ultimate research goal of the Composites Laboratory is to design and manufacture an innovative flexible/smart needle that can be used in various surgical procedures that use robotics surgery equipment. The smart needle is an actuating needling device for percutaneous intervention in soft tissue with greater flexibility and maneuverability, allowing accurate and easy access to target areas via obstacle avoidance and full conformity with the anatomical structure. The smart needling system can significantly improve cancer biopsy and treatment, and with a slight modification can be used for many other medical procedures such as drug delivery, in-vivo tissue analysis with Raman spectroscopy, and optical characterization. The smart needle concept can also potentially be applied to other surgical procedures, such as heart, bone marrow, spinal, eye, and brain surgeries. Dr. Hutapea and his team have constructed some scaled prototypes utilizing shape memory alloy (Nitinol) actuators to control the bending of the needle. The needle can be self-sensing via measuring the properties of the actuating Nitinol wires. Its motion through tissue can also be measured by external means through image-guided techniques. The proposed smart needle design is novel and different than other existing needle designs and concepts. Manufacturing challenges in developing a true-scale smart needle were learned and new researches are proposed and currently undergone to address those challenges. This keynote presentation will provide an overview of the research in the last six years.

Abstract- In this paper, the mathematical model of servovalve is established. Flow force and parameters of the servovalve are derived from the experiment. The effect of flow force on step response, no-load flow characteristic, hysteresis and frequency response of servovalve are investigated by simulations. The effect of the flow force on the valve performances are described in detail based on the simulation results.

Abstract- Finite element simulation had been used to assess the structural integrity and strain response of double end beam load cell. The purpose of the study is to analyze the mechanical strength and to predict the class of measurement accuracy of the load cell design before manufacturing the physical prototypes. Based on the analysis of structural integrity, safety factor of the structure was still in acceptable limits therefore the structure would certainly secure against both plastic deformation and ultimate failure. Then based on the strain simulation results, the level of measurement accuracy was predicted to reach the medium class with a good repeatability of measurement.

Abstract- Multi objective optimization of the structural design of double end beam load cell had been performed using genetic algorithm. There were two design variable which was used to minimize the structural mass, to maximize the structural strength, and to maximize the level of measurement accuracy. Based on the optimization results, the weight reduction of the structure was successfully achieved of about 8.6%. Then the design safety factor reached 24 percent larger than the yield failure criterion therefore the structure will certainly secure against the plastic deformation. The accuracy of measurement of the load cell was predicted to reach the category of high accuracy due to
the amount of strain on the strain gauge cavity managed to exceed ± 1600 με.

Abstract- Home automation (smart home) is a home that which it is equipped by a system for controlling and integrating electronic devices, such as lighting, home theather, CCTV (closed-circuit television), HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), security locks of gates and doors, motion sensor, and etc. The purpose is to provide the improved simplicity, energy efficiency, security, and comfortability at home for the user benefits. Smart home can be easily controlled by a PC or laptop, tablet, or even smart phone. For example, smart phone could be integrated as a part of tone sensor system for security door lock automation. In this research work, the locking automation system using smart phone polyphonic tone sensor have been designed and implemented. A simple unlocking mechanism is explained as follows. The DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency) module which has been programmed with Arduino was used to receive the signal from the polyphonic smart phone. After processing by Arduino Uno, then the driver will unlock the door. In three seconds, it will lock again. The security system like in the ATM (automated teller machine), the working range sensitivity of the system, and the amount of password digits are some limitations of this work, which could be better improved in the near future.

Abstract- In this study, the EMG signals are processed using 16 time-domain features extraction to classify the finger movement such as thumb, index, middle, ring, and little. The pattern recognition of 16 extracted features are classified using artificial neural network (ANN) with two layer feed forward network. The network utilizes a log-sigmoid transfer function in hidden layer and a hyperbolic tangent sigmoid transfer function in the output layer. The ANN uses 10 neurons in hidden layer and 5 neurons in output layer. The training of ANN pattern recognition uses Levenberg-Marquardt training algorithm and the performance utilizes mean square error (MSE). At about 22 epochs the MSE of training, test, and validation get stabilized and MSE is very low. Based on the resulted overall confusion matrix, the accuracy of thumb, middle, ring, and little is 100%. The confusion of index is 16.7%. The overall confusion matrix shows that the error is 3.3% and overall performance is 96.7%.

Abstract- In this paper, an application of nonlinear adaptive filter on EEG-SSVEP extraction for brain-controlled wheelchair is proposed. We used Adaptive Network Fuzzy Interference System as classifier for EEG signals. We focus on steady-state paradigms using a periodic visual stimulus, which are increasingly being used in both brain-computer interface (BCI) and cognitive neuroscience researches In the experiment, four subjects with age about 25±1 years were tested. The experimental results in this work show that the implementation of the proposed method achieves a great statistical improvement in extracting peak amplitude features. After a short time of practice, most participants could learn to extract the EEG-SSVEP wave with greater than 95% accuracy.

Abstract- There are few challenges in the detection of gas leaks using a mobile robot such as, the search space is vast, needed of a certain level of intelligence so that the searching process of robot become optimal, and the complexity to deal with unstructured environments. Combination of Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) and Fuzzy Logic Control(FLC) can answer these challenges, PSO role as each robot can conduct cooperation in the searching process of robots, where robots can tell the nearest other robot best position. FLC roles to handle complexity in avoiding other robots and obstacles so that the robot can avoid obstacles smoothly. As results of the simulation showed that PSO-FLC control can detect gas leak's source better based on the output of velocity and turning control as well as better travel time search, compared with the control of mobile robots without any PSO or FLC.

Abstract- This paper presents the development of PV (photovoltaic) simulator used for laboratory testing. The proposed simulator integrates both the software and the hardware device. The aim of proposed simulator is to develop an instrument that provides the output electrical power which is determined by the characteristic of PV under the varying solar irradiation. The Simulink software is employed to model the I-V characteristic of the PV. The output of Simulink is interfaced to a microcontroller for adjusting the current of an adjustable DC power supply. The experimental results show that the proposed simulator works appropriately, in the sense that power delivered by the adjustable power supply follows the maximum output power determined by the solar irradiation simulated in the Simulink. Further, the output of PV simulator could be connected to real electrical load for laboratory testing.

Abstract- Catfish is one of the leading commodity profitable. Catfish consumption in recent years has increased. But, loss results in fishery activity still occurs in the entire production chain from cultivation, harvest, post-harvest, processing and distribution, or transportation. Mainly in fish farming activities, i.e. the spawning process. One of the problems in catfish cultivation are extreme changes in environment temperature. Systems and technologies that can reduce the rate of yield loss needs to be developed. Based on the literature study, the water temperature affect the fish spawning. Results in the loss of spawning activity can be reduced with the construction of an automatic temperature control system so that the temperature of fish pond is always the ideal conditions for fish spawning. Qualitative research methodology used to conduct surveys, observations, interviews and data collection to support the simulation modelling using MATLAB. From the testing results of temperature control system prototype succeed to keep the spawning pond temperature in ideal temperature condition, i.e. 27ºC-30 ºC.

This paper presents the observation of magnetization process variables influence the conductivity of a solution of FeSO4, MnSO4, MgCl2 and CaCl2. Some of the survey results revealed that there has been
a decline in the rate of particle formation FeSO4, MnSO4, MgCl2 and CaCl2 of the ions in
the hard water sample magnetized. The research method in this paper is to test the conductivity of a solution of FeSO4, MnSO4, MgCl2 and CaCl2 before and after a given
pulse electromagnetic field with a concentration level of 0.1 M. Tools for generating an electromagnetic pulse is Electromagnetic Water Treatment (EWT) with pulse electromagnetic field of 9.3 mT. Testing the level of conductivity of the solution using the Bench Conductivity Meter has been calibrated by Control Company with Certificate No. 4163-4997748 and traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Tests done by looking at the function of the conductivity of the solution time FeSO4, MnSO4,

Tunable Spacing of O-band Multiwavelength Brillouin Fiber Laser

Abstract- A tuneable spacing of O-band multiwavelength Brillouin fiber laser is demonstrated. The channel spacing is varied by employing two types of cavities. A full closed linear cavity produce multiwavelength Brillouin fiber laser with 12.5GHz meanwhile a ring cavity provide channel spacing of 25.0 GHz. By combining these two cavities and employing optical channel switch the channel spacing are varied. The comparison of Brillouin threshold between band and C-band demonstrated. An O-band transmission window is used instead of C-O-band due to its lower Brillouin threshold.

Abstract- The purpose of the present study was to investigate the reliability of fast optical signal (FOS) using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). In this study, we presented a preliminary study in the detection of FOS from 10 subjects during electrical median nerve stimulation. We used high sampling frequency using continuous-wave NIRS to detect the FOS related to the neural activity. Furthermore, the FOS has been found with latency between 100 ms to 200 ms after stimulus.
