ABSTRACT

Some EFL learners have shown their excellent learning achievements for the past three years. Therefore, they still succeed even though they participated in many organizations or events at

the same time during their EFL learning. It attracts the researcher’s attention to investigate what the reasons are behind their success. Hence, this study aims to explore students’ attributions for their success in learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at the Faculty of Language and Arts (FLA) - UKSW. The participants of the study were 4 students consisting of 2 male and 2 female. They were students of the English Language Education Program at FLA-UKSW who were in the seventh semester and working on their thesis when this study was conducted. The data was collected by distributing an open-ended questionnaire, followed by semi-structured interviews. The data analysis appeared to prove that learning style, exposure to the language,

parent’s influence, friends’ support, lecturers’ performance, and classroom environment were

the most attributed reasons behind their success in their EFL learning. The results revealed that the male and female attributions are quite similar. There is no significant difference between them.
