TEACHING ENGLISH USING COMIC AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1 SAMPIT

ABSTRACT

The study was aimed at investigating the difference between pre-test and post-test of teaching English using comic. It is because there is differences

between teaching English using comic or not.

The study used quantitative comparative approach with Pre-Experimental design in finding out the answer of problem of the study. The population of the study consisted of a class of the eleventh grade student of Senior High School 1 Sampit. The total number of students was 28 students. The sample was

determined by using purposive sampling technique. The sample were given pre-test and post-pre-test to gain the students’ score in teaching English using comic. After getting the data of pre-test and post-test score, the writer analyzed the data using ttest paired test formula to test the hypothesis.

The result of testing hypothesis determined that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) stated that there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test of teaching English using comic of eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Sampit was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) stated that there is no any significant difference between pre-test and post-test of teaching English using comic of eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Sampit was rejected. It meant that there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test of teaching English using comic in eleventh grade students of Senior High School 1 Sampit. It was found that the result of tobserved was 2,749and the ttable was 2,473 at 1% of

significance level with the degree of freedom (df) was 27. It showed that tobserved

was bigger than ttable. In addition, the calculation result using SPSS 19 also

supported the interpretation of t-test result from manual calculation. It means that there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test of teaching English using comic.

MENGAJAR BAHASA INGGRIS MENGGUNAKAN KOMIK PADA SMAN 1 SAMPIT

ABSTRAKSI

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki perbedaan antara pre-tes dan post-tes pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan komik. Hal ini karena ada perbedaan antara mengajar bahasa Inggris menggunakan komik atau tidak.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan komparatif kuantitatif dengan desain Pre-Experimental dalam mencari tahu jawaban dari masalah penelitian. Populasi penelitian terdiri dari kelas siswa kelas XI Sekolah Menengah Atas 1 Sampit. Total jumlah siswa adalah 28 siswa. Sampel ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel diberi pre-test dan post-test untuk mendapatkan skor siswa dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan komik. Setelah mendapatkan data pre-test dan skor post-test, penulis menganalisis data dengan menggunakan uji t rumus uji berpasangan untuk menguji hipotesis.

Hasil pengujian hipotesis ditentukan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (Ha) menyatakan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre-test dan post-test pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan komik siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Sampit diterima dan hipotesis nol (Ho ) menyatakan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre-test dan post-test pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan komik siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Sampit ditolak. Ini berarti bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre-test dan post-test pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan komik pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Sampit. Ditemukan bahwa hasil t diamati adalah 2.749 dan t tabel adalah 2,473 pada 1% dari tingkat signifikansi dengan derajat kebebasan (df) adalah 27. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa t diamati lebih besar dari t tabel. Ini berarti bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pre-test dan post-test pengajaran bahasa Inggris menggunakan komik.
