AN ANALYSIS OF COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLE AND PRESUPPOSITION IN JOKO WIDODO’S INTERVIEW WITH ABC RADIO

This research is aimed to analyze Joko Widodo’s interview with ABC Radio from
cooperative principle and presupposition perspective. The object of study is an interview video of Jokowi and ABC Radio taken from Pemprov DKI youtube
channel. The data were analyzed using Grice’s Cooperative Principle (1975) and
Yule (1996) presupposition triggers. The study shows that Joko Widodo flouted the maxims of cooperative principle regularly. He dominantly flouted the maxim of quantity to give the interviewer and audience more understanding about the topic of conversation. Existential presupposition is the dominant presupposition
underlined in Joko Widodo’s answer when he flouted the maxims. Further should
investigate flouting in other fields such as debate, politics, the social media chat room, comments on social media posting or cyber conversation.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis wawancara Joko Widodo dengan ABC Radio dari pandangan teori cooperative principle dan presuposisi. Objek penelitian ini adalah video wawancara Jokowi dan ABC Radio yang diambil dari
channel youtube Pemprov DKI. Data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan teori
Cooperative Principle yang dicetuskan oleh Grice (1975) dan presupposition trigger yang dikemukakan oleh Yule (1996). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Joko Widodo melanggar maksim cooperative principle berulang kali. Beliau secara dominan melanggar maksim kuantitas demi memberikan pemahaman kepada pewawancara dan pendengar radio terkait topik pembicaraan. Presuposisi eksistensial adalah presuposisi yang dominan muncul saat Joko Widodo melanggar maksim dari cooperative principle. Penelitian selanjutnya disarankan untuk menginvestigasi cakupan bidang yang lebih luas seperti debat, politik, percakapan di media sosial, komentar di artikel media sosial atau percakapan online.
