Menulis adalah salah satu keterampilan dalam bahasa yang diajarkan siswa. Ada kompetensi dalam kurikulum 2013 untuk siswa SMA, peneliti memiliki masalah dalam menulis, siswa tidak dapat memahami tata bahasa, kemampuan menulis merekapun lebih sedikit, siswa memiliki kosakata terbatas, dan mereka membuka kamus dalam proses pembelajaran. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti melakukan teknik pemetaan cerita sebagai teknik. Ini dapat membantu siswa untuk mengembangkan tulisan mereka.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada atau tidak perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis pada kelas sebelas SMA PGRI 1 Pati tahun ajaran 2018/2019 sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan pemetaan cerita.
Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental. Peneliti mengunakan kelompok tunggal,pre-test, post-test dan treatment hanya disatu kelas. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA 5 yang terdiri dari 40 siswa.
Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata – rata dari nilai pre-test adalah 60.25 dengan dikategorikan “cukup”. Sedangkan nilai post-test adalah 85 dengan dikategorikan “ sangat baik”. Berdasarkan data, t- critical adalah ± 0,308 dengan level signifikan (α)0.05, degree of freedom adalah 39 dan t-obtained (to) adalah 13.35 dan t-test adalah 0.308. Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima karena to(t-obtained) jatuh kedalam critical region. Jadi hipotesisnya “ ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis teks naratif siswa kelas Sebelas SMA PGRI 1 Pati pada tahun ajaran 2018/2019 sebelum dan sesudah dengan menggunakan pemetaan cerita.”
Berdasarkan proses dan hasil dari penelitian ini, peneliti menyarankan kepada Guru Bahasa Inggris dapat mrnggunakan teknik baru dalam proses belajar mengajar. Teknik pemetaan cerita dapat digunakan sebagai alternative untuk mengajar menulis teks naratif.

Writing is one of the skills in language which taught the students. There are competences in curriculum 2013 for senior high school, the researcher have problems in writing, the students cannot understand grammar, their ability in writing is less, the students have limit vocabulary, and they open dictionary in every learning process. To solve the problems, the researcher proposed is story mapping as technique. It can help the students to develop their writing.
The purpose of the research is to find out whether any significant difference between the writing ability of narrative text of the eleventh grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in 2018/2019 academic year before and after being taught by using Story Mapping.
The design of the research is experimental research. The researcher uses single- group model, pre- test, post- test and the treatment only in the class. The instrument is written test. The population of the research is written test. The population of the research is the eleventh graders of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in 2018/2019 academic year and the sample is XI IPA 5 which consist 40 students.
The result of the research shows that the mean of the pre-test scores is 60.25 is categorized as “Sufficient”. Therefore, the mean of post-test scores is 85 as categorized as “Excellent.” Based on the result of the data, t- critical is ± 0.308 with level significance (α) 0.05, and degree of freedom (df) is 39 and t-obtained (to)is 13.35 and the t-test is 0.308. However, the researcher rejected the null hypothesis and accepted and the alternative hypothesis, because (t0)t-obtained falls in the critical region. The hypothesis state “ there is a significant difference between the writing ability of narrative text of the eleventh grade students of SMA PGRI 1 Pati in 2018/2019 academic year before and after being taught by using story mapping.”
Based on the process and the result, the resesearcher suggests that the English teacher should use a new technique in teaching learning process. Story mapping technique can be used as alternative technique to teach writing of narrative text.
