Project proposals to be covered by AADCP (ASEAN-Australia Development Cooperation Programme) for wood based sector
I. Background information
Under the scheme of AADCP, Australia has offered funding assistance for implementation of work programme of Product Working Group within ASEAN region, including for wood-based sector. The project titled “Towards a regional approach for addressing standards for wood-based products in ASEAN/Australia/New Zealand Free Trade Agreement” has been allocated sum of budget AUD$ 270,112.
The Project Objectives intends to enhance the capacity of ASEAN policy makers to develop an approach towards standards in free trade agreements, principally the ASEANCER FTA, based on ‘best practice’ principles, which maximise the economic benefit to ASEAN economies and which are supportive of regional integration.
The project amongst others, will assess the impact of the regulation of standards, mutual recognition and harmonization for wood-based products in free trade agreements on ASEAN trade and domestic systems. The project will also try to identify targeted areas where further training is required to support an ASEAN-wide approach. Details of the proposed project proposal under the AADCP scheme as enclosed.
II. Recommendation
The meeting may consider possibility for the implemention of the project for the benefits of WB PWG Work Programme. The meeting may discuss the follow up actions needed.
