This final project report is written based on the job training which was done in CV. Ihyaa & Co. The major aim of the final project report is to describe Corporate Social Responsibility activities done by CV. Ihyaa & Co.
In writing this final project, the writer uses descriptive method. The writer uses ways of collecting data, such as direct observation and interview. The job
training was done from February 20th 2010 to May 22th 2010.
In the discussion, the writer describes the activities of Corporate Social Responsibility of CV. Ihyaa & Co. Corporate Social Responsibility in CV. Ihyaa & Co is very important to create good image and good relationship, and because of them CV. Ihyaa & Co gets jobs. This company does Corporate Social Responsibility based on triple bottom line: economy (profit), society (people), and environment (planet). The examples of activities of Corporate Social Responsibility of CV. Ihyaa & Co are holding education expo with its partner, holding education seminars, helping the victims of disaster, giving help to poor orphans, holding social events, holding religion events, etc. CV. Ihyaa & Co does the systematic process of Public Relations’ activity, from data collecting or fact finding, planning, communicating, and evaluation. This company follows the process, because it makes it easier for CV. Ihyaa & Co to do Public Relations activities. Corporate Social Responsibilities done by CV. Ihyaa & Co have some benefits, for example, to make good relationship, to increase sales, and to maintain and improve company’s reputation and brand image.

mission of the company. It means that Public Relations has to work to support the
goal of the company.
Public Relations is a distinctive management function which helps establishes and maintains mutual lines of communication
understanding, acceptance and cooperation between an
organization and its public (Seitel, 1998: 6).
One of the strategies to reach the goals (good image and good relationship)
is Corporate Social Responsibility. According to Hopkins, agreement of the
meaning of Corporate Social Responsibility is very important. It is needed to
understand the meaning of Corporate Social Responsibility in order that the
company can apply it consistently (in Wahyudi and Azheri, 2008: 19). Today,
however, there is no agreement about the meaning of Corporate Social
Responsibility. Corporate Social Responsibility has been implemented by

it with several motivations, depending on the way to see and understand the
meaning of Corporate Social Responsibility.
CV. Ihyaa & Co is a medium company. Although it is a medium company,
it concerns to do Corporate Social Responsibility. CV. Ihyaa & Co has
communities which have a responsibility to manage Corporate Social
Responsibility. They have to make a plan, do, and evaluate their program of
Corporate Social Responsibility, and also collect the fund to do it. CV. Ihyaa &
Co often holds social events with its communities. That is why the writer was
interested to make the final project report entitled

CHAPTER II
LITERATURE REVIEW
A. Definition of Corporate Social Responsibility
According to Hopkins, agreement on the meaning of Corporate Social
Responsibility is very important (Wahyudi and Azheri, 2008: 19). Today,
however, there is no agreement on the meaning of Corporate Social
Responsibility. Although there is no agreement on the meaning of Corporate
Social Responsibility, it has been implemented by the companies in many kinds of
event which are based on charity.
Wahyudi and Azheri (2008) in their book Corporate Social Responsibility:
Prinsip, Pengaturan, dan Implementasi mentioned some definitions of Corporate
Social Responsibility. According to World Business Council for Sustainable
Development (WBCSD),
Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large.
According to World Bank,

society at large to improve quality of life, in ways that are both good for business and good for development.
According to Corporate Social Responsibility Forum, “Corporate Social
Responsibility means open and transparent business practices that are based on
ethical values and respect for employees, communities and environment”
(Wahyudi and Azheri, 2008: 29)
From the three definitions above, we can identify that the meaning of
Corporate Social Responsibility from the World Business Council for Sustainable
Development (WBCSD) is the same as the meaning of Corporate Social
Responsibility from the World Bank. They emphasize Corporate Social
Responsibility as a business commitment to contribute to sustainable economic
development and working with employees, employee families, and communities
in order to improve the quality of life. But the World Bank add the benefit of
Corporate Social Responsibility activities which is helpful for business and
development, while Corporate Social Responsibility Forum stresses the openness
and transparency in business based on ethical values and respect for employees,
communities, and environment.
From the explanation above, we know that the companies have
implemented Corporate Social Responsibility in many kinds of event which are
based on charity. The companies do it with several motivations, depending on the

B. The Advantages of Corporate Social Responsibility
Today, many companies do social responsibility, it is because government
has regulated it in the law. Besides, they believe that social responsibility will
give them many advantages. The benefit of Corporate Social Responsibility is not
only for the company, but also for the company’s public, such as society,
employees, etc. These are the advantages of Corporate Social Responsibility for
company and society.
1. The advantages of Corporate Social Responsibility for company:
a. To make good relationship with stake holders.
b. To increase sales.
c. To improve the employees’ spirit and productivity.
d. To maintain and improve company’s reputation and brand image.
e. The probability of obtaining awards.
f. To reduce the risk and accusations of irresponsible behavior.

2. The advantage of Corporate Social Responsibility for society
The society feels the advantage of Corporate Social Responsibility, for

society. Besides developing human resources, some companies also focus in
education, environment, and economy. (Untung, 2008: 67)
There is no reason to suppose that over time a socially responsible
management will make less money because the explanation above explains there
are many advantages of Corporate Social Responsibility, in spite of the companies
do Corporate Social Responsibility for commercial reason at first time.
C. The Activity of Corporate Social Responsibility
Many companies have created special committees to make the agenda and
target. They want to make sure that their Corporate Social Responsibility program
is well done. There are three bottom lines in Corporate Social Responsibility
which are used as orientation to make Corporate Social Responsibility program.
According to Prince of Wales Foundation, there are five important things that
influence the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility. They are
building human capital, protecting the environment, encouraging good
governance, and assessing social cohesion and economic strength. (Untung, 2008:

From the explanation above, Corporate Social Responsibility program is
based on economy, society, and environment. It is the same as the explanation

According to Elkington (1997), a company that does social responsibility
will give carefulness to increase the company quality (profit), society, especially
local community (people), and environment (planet) (Susanto, 2009: 11).
There are many books which explain about concept or form of Corporate
Social Responsibility program, but the bottom of concept of Corporate Social
Responsibility program is the above triple bottom line. Companies can do their
social responsibility based on the above triple bottom line. They also can create
their own idea for social responsibility program suitable with the meaning of
Corporate Social Responsibility.
In Hendrik Budi Untung (2008: 7), there are four categories of company
based on the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility. They are:
1. Black category. It is a category that never does Corporate Social
Responsibility. They just focus on their business and do not care about
environment and social aspect.
2. Red category. They do Corporate Social Responsibility, but they think
that Corporate Social Responsibility reduce their company profit.
3. Blue category, a company that thinks Corporate Social Responsibility

4. Green category, the company put Corporate Social Responsibility as
their center of business. They think that Corporate Social Responsibility is
not only a necessity, but also a need to do social event.
D. The Laws of Corporate Social Responsibility in Indonesia
In Indonesia, Corporate Social Responsibility was legislated in UU
(Decree) No. 40 year 2007 about Limited Company Liability section 74. It makes
some companies complain, because they think that activity of Corporate Social
Responsibility is an activity based on willingness not compulsion (Susanto, 2009:
2).
Some companies do not want to do Corporate Social Responsibility, but
many companies want to do it and they are aware of how important Corporate
Social Responsibilities is.

E. The Activity of Public Relations
In Soleh Soemirat and Elvinaro Ardianto (2003: 90), there are four
systematic steps of Public Relations activity. They are:
1. Fact finding. Fact finding is looking for and collecting fact or data before
doing the program.
2. Planning. Planning is making a plan based on data which is obtained in
fact finding. The planning is about what should be done to solve the
problems.
3. Communicating. Communicating is taking action and communicating the
plan.
4. Evaluation. Evaluation is evaluating the plan. Evaluation can be done
continually. The result of evaluation can be a reference to make a next

A.1. History of CV. Ihyaa & Co
CV. Ihyaa & Co is a company engaged in Indonesian development,
especially about human resources, education and also Information Technology.
This idea was inspired by global situation that Indonesia as a developing country
will compete with other countries. This is caused by free trade among countries. It
makes information technology as an urgent need for economy and business.
CV. Ihyaa & Co makes a deal to solve this challenge. It gives solution
about empowerment of human resources, education and also Information
Technology needed to be excellent. CV Ihyaa & Co will give service which fits
on target and is useful to support competition so that increase ability to compete in

is located on Jalan MR Sartono No 57 Solo. The writer’s workday is not regular.
She did job training for three months in CV. Ihyaa & Co. It was started on

The writer’s activities during job training in CV. Ihyaa & Co were:
1. The writer helped in Sponsorship Division of Solo Education Expo 4th
2010. For this event was organized by CV. Bintang Promosindo
cooperation CV. Ihyaa & Co and many other companies.
2. The writer helped the launching of Majelis Dhuha Nasional (MDN) Solo.
Majelis Dhuha Nasional (MDN) is a nonprofit organization held by Yusuf
Mansur to make societies pray Dhuha every day. Because Dhuha praying
make us easier to get good riches. This event also gave money and food to
poor orphan children. It cooperates with CV. Ihyaa & Co’s community,
Majelis Ma’isyah.
3. The writer had been a volunteer in a National Seminar about multiple
intelligences with Munif Chatib as its speaker. She also made reportage
about it.
4. The writer, employees of CV. Ihyaa & Co, and Majelis Ma’isyah had been
volunteers in Yogyakarta and Wonosobo. In Yogyakarta, they helped
social events, such as holding blood donor, studying Al-Qur’an together,
launching a house for poor orphan children, and holding cheap bazaar. In
Wonosobo, they visited 2 Moslem boarding schools. There, they gave
money and shared things with the children in the Moslem boarding

5. The writer was given a chance to follow a Seminar about Corporate Social
Responsibility and charity of company.
6. The writer made an article for Sajadah magazine.
7. The writer was given a chance to follow a seminar about Success in Islam
Way like Prophet Muhammad SAW in Yogyakarta with two employees of
CV. Ihyaa & Co.
C. Result of Writer’s Activities
During the writer did the job training in CV. Ihyaa & Co, the writer has
done some duties, such as:
1. Making proposal/ letters of offer to clients and CV. Ihyaa & Co’s
community.
2. Looking for company or organization to be sponsor, then proposing
offer and lobbying clients.
3. Being a volunteer.
4. Making reportage and article.
5. Helping to handle social events.

From the activities that the writer did during the job training in Public
Relations of CV. Ihyaa and Co, she got new experience and learned many things
about Corporate Social Responsibility.
D. The Activities of Corporate Social Responsibility Done by CV. Ihyaa & Co
CV. Ihyaa & Co is a company engaged in Indonesian development,
especially about human resources, education and also Information Technology. It
means that the income of CV. Ihyaa & Co is mostly determined by clients who
want to upgrade motivation and spirit, to learn Information Technology, to hold
an education event, etc.
This company has many partners and communities who use its service.
CV. Ihyaa & Co never makes advertisement in media. It just uploads its program
in its website and makes press release and reportage. This company gets jobs from
its partners and communities. CV. Ihyaa & Co’s partners and communities believe
in CV. Ihyaa & Co, because it has good image and good relationship with them.
CV. Ihyaa & Co’s way to get good image and good relationship is by Corporate
Social Responsibility. It is its center of business. They think that Corporate Social
Responsibility is not only a necessity, but also a need.
The social responsibility in the field of business is not only oriented on
social commitment which emphasizes on the humanism, interest in the religion,
and the morality, but also the duties that must be done by the businessman to

Social Responsibility established on education, social, and poor orphan, such as
giving help to poor orphans and giving knowledge about mindful learning.
As explained in Literature Review, a company which does social
responsibility will do its Corporate Social Responsibility based on triple bottom
line. They are economy (profit), society (people), and environment (planet). It is
like Public Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co which has done many activities
of Corporate Social Responsibility. Some of the activities of Corporate Social
Responsibility done by CV. Ihyaa & Co are:
1. Economy (Profit)
In economy, CV. Ihyaa & Co holds education expo with its partner. This
event is a Corporate Social Responsibility activity, but also obtains money. It is a
proof that CV. Ihyaa & Co care about education. CV. Ihyaa & Co also can get an
income from the profit, besides CV. Ihyaa & Co gets new partners who maybe
will use its service.
2. Society (People)
a. Holding education seminars
CV. Ihyaa & Co has done some education seminars. Some of the
education seminars are free. CV. Ihyaa & Co really cares about education. Some
free seminars are held especially for teachers and people who work in education.

Many poor orphans do not get help from the government. It is why CV.
Ihyaa & Co cares them. It is one of regular programs which is held by CV. Ihyaa
& Co.
c. Holding social events
The example of social event which has done by CV. Ihyaa & Co is visiting
Moslem boarding school then gave money and share with the children in the
Moslem boarding school.
d. Holding religious events
Some religious events have been done by CV. Ihyaa & Co are launching
Majelis Dhuha Nasional (MDN) and studying Al-Qur’an together.
3. Environment (Planet)
CV. Ihyaa & Co helps the victims of disaster. Disaster is an unpredictable
thing. People do not know when and where disaster happens. Besides helping the
victims of disaster, CV. Ihyaa & Co tries to save the earth. For example, CV.
Ihyaa & Co also helps to fix the damaged area in a disaster.
After doing the job training, the writer got many experience and
knowledge related to the Corporate Social Responsibility of CV. Ihyaa & Co.
Public Relations Division has big responsibility to maintain good image and good
relationship especially by Corporate Social Responsibility. Because of them, CV.

According to the Literature Review, to do the activities of Public
Relations, there are four things which should cared by Public Relations Officer.
Public Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co does the same things. They are:
1. Fact finding or data collecting
The activities of Public Relations are based on facts. To find the data,
Public Relations officer makes a research to know the condition of its public and
company. To collect the data, CV. Ihyaa & Co has a process; they are penjaringan
(collecting), penampungan (receiving), penyaringan kristalisasi (filter
crystallization). The first, CV. Ihyaa & Co collects data in the form of facts and
opinions in the society and the company. CV. Ihyaa & Co collects data by asking
its communities about facts and opinions in the public and the company. Public
Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co has many communities from all classes
which can give suggestion about what is happening in the society. It also uses the
evaluation of the programs before and sometimes it gives questioner to the chosen
samples. The research by giving questioner to the chosen samples has aim to
know what the public think, need, and feel. The questioner includes important
questions to get information and explanation completely.
Then, the data used as a reference to make a plan of Public Relations
program. The last step, CV. Ihyaa & Co will filter the data and choose some data
which are crucial and needed by the public. It is done because in making a plan,

smart. They have to do things which should be done and focus at the top priority.
So, they can work effectively because they can economize its money and time.
2. Planning
Public Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co, before doing Corporate
Social Responsibility, makes a plan with its communities about what they will do.
They make a plan based on seeing and feeling what the societies need, what the
issue is in the societies, and what the problem is.
In making a planning, Public Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co and
its communities specifically write the programs, for example, what goal they want
to reach, what message they want to give, who their target audiences are, etc.
They do it to make it easier for them to evaluate the program. Actually, if CV.
Ihyaa & Co has more human resources, money, and time they want to make many
programs and solve all social problems, but they have no power to do it.
3. Communicating
After Public Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co and its communities
make a plan, they start to do the plan. First, they communicate it to the societies as
well as they can. They use pamphlets, messages, social network, etc to
communicate their activities. They also do the best in every activity and try to do
the program suitable with the plan. The actuating process is the most important
process, because it is the core of a program. The public’s enthusiasm can be seen
in this process. So, Public Relations Division’s CV. Ihyaa & Co and its

4. Evaluation
The last step is evaluation. To evaluate a program, Public Relations
Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co and its communities hold a meeting after the
programs finish. It is done to discuss the result of the program, such as to know
whether the activities are well done, what the pursuer factors are, what the
achievement is, how the measurement of the result is, how Public Relations
Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co and its communities do the program, etc. The
evaluation is important, because Public Relations Division of CV. Ihyaa & Co and
its communities must hold responsibility for every program. The evaluation can
also become a reference for the next activity in order to be better and avoid the
same mistake.
To know the output of the program, Public Relations Division of CV.
Ihyaa & Co and its communities have to make progress report every two months.
The result of the programs done by CV. Ihyaa & Co sometimes is uploaded in its
website. The aims of it are to promote CV. Ihyaa & Co and to build good image.
After the programs are evaluated, Public Relations Division’s CV. Ihyaa &
Co and its communities know the value of each program, so the program which

CONCLUSION AND SUGESSTION
A. Conclusion
CV. Ihyaa & Co is a company engaged in Indonesian development,
