Announcement
18th International Symposium on Polycyclic Aromatic
Compounds Ð ISPAC18
University of Cincinnati, OH, USA
9±13 September 2001
About the Symposium
The 18th International Symposium of the Interna-tional Society on Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds (ISPAC18) will be held in Cincinnati, OH, USA, at the University of Cincinnati. Like earlier ISPAC meetings in France, Italy, and the US, this year's conference will focus on state-of-the-art and cutting-edge research on chemical properties and biological eects of PACs. The program will include plenary speakers, oral and poster sessions, short courses, and exhibits.
Scienti®c Program
Scienti®c sessions on biology and chemistry will be held concurrently. Topics for these sessions are listed below; please note that this list is not intended to be exhaustive or all-inclusive:
. chemistry (analytical chemistry, analytical
stan-dards, spectroscopy, source and formation, QSAR/ SAR/computational, synthesis, photochemistry, theoretical chemistry, atmospheric chemistry/ transformation)
. occurrence, sources and distribution (PAC in food,
PAC in freshwater ecosystems, PAC in marine environments)
. exposure (human exposure, environmental
expo-sure)
. biodegradation . bioremediation
. environmental chemistry (soils, crude oils, marine
environments)
. health eects (metabolism/P450, metabolic
acti-vation, DNA and protein adducts, mechanisms of action, endocrine eects, mutagenesis, carcino-genesis)
. ecotoxicology (environmental toxicology,
envir-onmental metabolism)
. mixtures . risk assessment
Submission of Abstracts
To submit a paper for oral or poster presentation at ISPAC18, an abstract containing original results must be submitted by 1 April 2001. Send the abstract as an attachment to an e-mail addressed to ISPAC18@ uc.edu
Short Courses
The 17th ISPAC meeting included, for the ®rst time, a set of pre-conference short courses. ISPAC18 will con-tinue this feature and present short courses on 9 Sep-tember 2001. Short courses will be presented by leading experts and organized around two major themes:
1.Chemistry and Detection of PAC and Metabolites in Environmental and Biological Samples, and
2.Biology and Molecular Epidemiology of PAC.
Exhibitors
ISPAC18 will include exhibits and displays that will provide consultants, industries, service suppliers, equip-ment manufacturers, publishers, and others an oppor-tunity to interact with participants and display their equipment, activities, and expertise. Prospective exhibi-tors should direct inquiries to [email protected]
Conference Proceedings
Presenters may submit manuscripts with full results for review. After the review process, selected papers will
