Vocabulary Profile of IC (Integrated Course) Books Used in English

Teacher Education Program of Satya Wacana Christian University

Abstract

This study was conducted to identify the vocabulary profile of IC (Integrated Course) books used in English Teacher Education Program of Satya Wacana Christian University. The sample was taken from IC (Integrated Course) book 1 and 2 as much as 25% by choosing the pages systematically for each book. The analysis was done by using an electronic tool: Vocabulary Profiler. Vocabulary profile consists of four types: high – frequency word, low – frequency word, academic word, and technical word. In this study, the vocabulary profiler only focused on the three types: K1 (1000 word list) as the high – frequency word, K2 (1001 – 2000 word list), and AWL (academic word list). Based on the result, the vocabulary in IC book 1 comprised 81.46% of K1 word, 7.54% of K2 word, and 2.1% of AWL word. The vocabulary in IC book 2 comprised 83.93% of K1 word, 7.12% of K2 word, and 1.72% of AWL word.
