• Kondisi energi nasional
• Solusi potensial dari sektor kehutanan
• Hambatan dan Kondisi Pemungkin
• Kebutuhan energi terus meningkat sejalan dengan pertumbuhan ekonomi dan populasi. 10 tahun terakhir naik: 7%/tahun.
• Cadangan minyak bumi menipis. Dari eksporter menjadi net-importer, keluar dari OPEC.
• Tahun 2011: impor 40 juta liter (250.000 barrel) per hari (Jakarta Post, 25 Januari 2012).
• Diprediksi akan mengimpor 1,3 juta barrel/hari (Indonesia Energy Outlook) – AKAN MEMISKINKAN NEGERI.
• Subsidi BBM memberatkan APBN – menyebabkan kegaduhan politik, de-stabilisasi negeri.

• Shift ke energi
alternatif/baru/terbarukan adalah sebuah keniscayaan.
• Bioenergi adalah salah satu alternatif paling menjanjikan.
• Seluruh dunia melakukan upaya intensif dan besar-besaran. • Daerah tropis sepatutnya menjadi
penghasil bioenergi paling dominan. Major Bioethanol Producers Major Biodiesel Producers Biodiesel production expanding

Sektor Kehutanan sebagai Solusi???
Biofuel Generasi I, II, III
Generasi
Feed Stock/Bahan Baku
I
Pati, gula, lemak/minyak nabati yang juga
merupakan bahan pangan (CPO,
kacang-kacangan, singkong, tebu)
II
Lignocellulosic/kayu – limbah (pertanian,
perkebunan, kehutanan), kayu hasil
penanaman (hutan energi), rumput
(miscanthus, arundo donax) -- KEHUTANAN
III
Algae

aristanto@ssp.co.id Bogor, 12 Januari 2011 Trend of Biofuels Development
• Generasi I vs Generasi II.
• Kawasan hutan luas (sebagian kritis): bisa dijadikan
sumber bahan baku (lignocellulose dan non-edible
seeds).
• Iklim tropis – cepat tumbuh.
• Kekayaan biodiversitas penghasil bahan baku
energi: buah/biji, pati, kayu bernilai kalor tinggi.
Kehutanan sebagai Solusi? YES!!
sendiri-sendiri, terpisah (
Tiba-tiba DME nyamplung:
supply feedstock terbatas, teknologi estherifikasi dan
transesterifikasi belum tuntas DME tidak berjalan
sesuai harapan bisa tumbuhkan pesimisme
masyarakat).
• Belum ada langkah-langkah sistematis terencana dan
harmonis lintas aktor untuk merealisasikan potensi.
• Belum ada Rancangan Umum sebagai acuan
pihak-pihak terkait untuk menghasilkan kesatuan langkah.
Kondisi yg harus dibangun
• Political intention/will – jadikan program nasional prioritas – RANCANGAN UMUM NASIONAL BIOENERGI KEHUTANAN • Bangun hutan (HTI) penghasil energi – beri insentif. • Adopsi dan kembangkan penguasaan teknologi dan SDM. • Insentif investasi pembangunan pabrik.
• Kembangkan infrastruktur distribusi – e.g. peran PERTAMINA • Sosialisasi ke masyarakat
Bioenergi yang mana?
• Woodpellet? • Biodiesel - biokerosene? • Bioethanol? • Biomethanol? • Semuanya?Woodpellet: teknologi tersedia,
pengembangan industri
• Pembangunan pabrik-pabrik terintegrasi dengan
pembangunan hutan tanaman biomassa.
• Site: tidak di site yang sama dengan sentra pulp
dan kertas – Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Papua, NTT.
• Terintegrasi dengan industri pengolahan kayu:
memanfaatkan limbah --> Jawa
• Riset: jenis bahan baku, peningkatan kualitas
produk, standardisasi
Biodiesel/Bioethanol/Biokerosene
• Teknologi generasi II (berbahan baku kayu, non-edible seed/starch/sugar) sudah mulai tersedia, meski belum komersial, mis: nyamplung, bintaro, kemiri sunan.
• Riset: peningkatan efisiensi pengolahan dan kualitas product, eksplorasi jenis-jenis bahan baku serta pembangunan hutan tanamannya. • Pembangunan pabrik pengolahan skala model
(uji coba).
• Pembangunan hutan penghasil bahan baku • Pemasaran
Biomethanol: the new frontier
Biomethanol: a Fuel of the Future
Biomethanol has been used
successfully as fuel for racing cars
(RTCC).
In Japan, the Norin Green No. 1 test plant produces biomethanol from various biomass materials (FFTC).
BioMCN is the largest second generation
biofuels producer in the world
.With a current capacity of 250 million liters of bio-methanol per year BioMCN is already more than sufficient to fulfil the entire 2010 Dutch biofuel obligation for gasoline. Through an innovative process, bio-methanol is made from crude glycerine- a residue resulting from processing vegetable oils and animal fats. Because bio-methanol is made from a residue, its renewable energy content is entitled to be counted twice in accordance with the Renewable Energy Directive
In comparison to regular methanol, bio-methanol reduces CO2 emissions by 78%. This makes bio-methanol ideally suited to play an important and lasting role in the transition to sustainable transportation fuels with low CO2 emissions. It can be used as a raw material for other biofuels and fuel additives (e.g. MTBE), and also as a fuel in its own right
EU approves grant for Chemrec biomethanol,
bioDME plant
26 January 2011
The European Union has approved the SEK 500 million (€55 million, $75 million) R&D grant awarded by the Swedish Energy Agency towards the industrial scale demonstration biofuels plant based on Chemrec’s gasification technology at the Domsjö Fabriker biorefinery in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. (Earlier post.) The plant will produce the renewable and environmentally compatible biofuels biomethanol or bioDME using forest harvest residues as energy feedstock.
The plant will be based on the Chemrec black liquor gasification technology combined with advanced technology for fuels
production. The project investment cost is estimated at
approximately SEK 3 billion for a production capacity of 140,000 ton biomethanol or 100,000 ton bioDME per year in a dual product plant.
