Universitas Sumatera Utara ABSTRACT
Tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBL) is the most common form of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. The gold standard in diagnosing TBL is based on cytology test. Limitations of facilities and the number of pathologists in peripheral area made it hard to diagnose this disease. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Tuberculin test as a substitute of cytology test in diagnosing TBL because it is quite efficient and can be performed by all health care provider.
This is an analytic study with cross sectional approach. This study used secondary data which were medical records collected from Haji Adam Malik Medan Hospital from 2012 to 2015. The amount of sample which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were 27 people. The collected data were then inserted into a statistic software and tested using Fisher’s exact test.
From the total of 27 samples, 22 patients (81,4%) were diagnosed with TBL and 5 patients (18,6%) were diagnosed with other lymph node enlargement. From the 22 TBL patients, 13 people (59,1%) showed negative Tuberculin test and 9 people (40,9%) showed positive Tuberculin test. From 5 patients with other lymph node enlargement, all patients showed negative Tuberculin test. The analytic result showed the p-value was 0,138 (p>0,05).
From the result of the analysis, there were no correlation between Tuberculin test and TBL patients. The sensitivity and specificity of Tuberculin test were 40,9% and 100% respectively.
