ABSTRACT
This study focused in analysing the connotative meaning in “Ronggeng
Dukuh Paruk” novel of Javanese and English versions by Ahmad Tohari. That
there are many words or compound words contain the connotative meaning in this novel.
This study is descriptive qualitative research because it did not deal with number at all. Then, this research use qualitative research because the aim of this research is to describe the connotative meaning of novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk in a complete, detailed description but not to classify features, count them, and construct statistical models in an attempt to explain what is observed (Qualitative).
The results of this study show the form of connotative, and then show there are many words and compound words containing the connotative meaning in the novel. Connotative meaning can be divided into three kinds, namely positive connotative (pure word) and negative connotative (snarl word). Besides the positive and negative connotative meaning, there is neutral connotative that is most of them is jargon language. The most emerging in this analysis are the word or compound word include negative connotative meaning.

Penelitian ini difokuskan pada makna konotatif dalam novel "Ronggeng
Dukuh Paruk" versi bahasa Jawa dan Inggris oleh Ahmad Tohari. Bahwa ada
banyak kata atau kata majemuk yang mengandung makna konotatif dalam novel ini.
Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif karena tidak berhubungan dengan nomor. Kemudian, penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif karena tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan makna konotatif pada novel “Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk” dalam deskripsi yang lengkap dan rinci, tetapi tidak untuk mengklasifikasikan fitur, menghitungnya dan membangun model statistik dalam upaya untuk menjelaskan apa yang diamati (disebut kualitatif).
Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menunjukkan bentuk konotatif, kemudian untuk menunjukkan ada banyak kata dan kata majemuk yang mengandung makna konotatif dalam novel “Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk” versi bahasa Jawa dan Inggris. Makna konotatif dapat dibagi menjadi tiga macam, yaitu konotatif positif (kata yang murni) dan konotatif negatif (kata yang kasar). Selain makna konotatif positif dan negatif, ada konotatif netral yang sebagian besar dari mereka adalah bahasa jargon. Yang paling banyak muncul dalam analisis ini adalah kata atau kata majemuk yang termasuk makna konotatif negatif.
