The Pastor’s Corner
“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.” Luke 6:22Ͳ23
It’s hard to “rejoice and leap for joy” aer experiencing rejec on and hatred from another personͶespecially if one is persecuted because of his or her faith in Jesus.
In situa ons like that, it takes a lot of faith and love to sincerely rejoice. It is, however, possible to do.
We know this is true because our Lord asks us to do this. If it were impossible, Christ wouldn’t have given us this teachingͶone that calls us to live to the highest ideal. It’s called living the Bea tudes.
It would be nice to go through each Bea tude and figure out to apply it to our lives.
However, taken as a whole, the Bea tudes are
a reminder of the fact that Jesus calls us not to mediocrity, but to excellence. When we reach the heights of excellence, we experience our greatest reward.
For today, reflect upon the Bea tude referenced above. Maybe you’ve never been ac vely persecuted for your faith in Christ as a Catholic but try to put yourself in the shoes of someone who has. How would you react?
Would you allow that persecu on of your Catholic faith to “roll off your back?” Would you accept this without allowing it to disturb your inner core? Would you turn bi2er and angry and resist future opportuni es to share your Catholic faith with others?
Aim high for living the ideals of the Chris an life. If you aim for something lower, you run the risk of living below your spiritual poten al.
But if you aim high, focusing on the Bea tudes, you will find that the Lord will strengthen you and fill you with more faithͶ bringing you to an even greater level of holiness. It’s worth the effort!
Peace!
Fr. Aaron

Volunteer Opportunity
If you feel called to help support poor people around the world, here is an excellent opportunity for you!
Pope Francis urges us to care for those in other countries who are suffering in poverty, under oppressive regimes, exposed to covid, or on the move as refugees. A good way to do this is to support the efforts of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). CRS is an arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops that helps people in other, poorer countries directly by providing much needed aid, and indirectly by lobbying for beAer public policies. A Maine Advisory Chapter for CRS will be forming to meet monthly (online) to learn about the ongoing good work of this organiza@on. There will be an introductory zoom training mee@ng on Tuesday, February 15th from 6:30 pm to 8 pm that will give you the opportunity to learn more about Catholic Relief Services and this new, Maine advisory group. To receive a link to the online session on February 15th, or if you have ques@ons, please contact Bill at Catholic Chari@es Maine, bwood@ccmaine.org or 956Ͳ1457. Hope you can join us!
