Discovering the path to a deeper relationship with Jesus We have been told time and time again that a relationship with Jesus will fulfill us, bring happiness, and give our lives meaning - but do we
believe that? Are we truly open to a deeper relationship with him?
Please join St Adalbert Parish for three nights of prayer, music, reflec- tion, scripture, and Fr. Barry's "Movie Moments" -
February 4th, 5th, and 6th 6:30pm-8:30pm
We hope too see you at all three evenings, however please come to whichever evening(s) your schedule allows.
Encounter
Greetings,
He said to them, “Come and you will see.” How often are you invited to a gathering and then for various reasons, look for excuses not to show up? I’m certain that most of us have been in this situation at least one during our lives.
Sometimes just showing up is half the battle. Hopefully after you arrive you find yourself happy that you put forth the effort! Upon arrival everyone is grateful that you showed up!
Could you imagine turning down an invitation from Jesus?! Everyday Jesus is inviting us into a deeper encounter with him. Are we like the disciples who courageously dropped everything and followed him? Or do we perhaps shy away from those opportunities that might come before us.
I invite all of you to embrace an upcoming opportunity to Encounter Me on February 4th, 5th, and 6th. Mark your calendar and don’t miss out on Jesus’ invitation to,
“Come, and you will see!”

Happy New Year! I know that 2018 is already two weeks old, but this gospel is very appropriate for ringing in the new year. When sitting down to write this piece, I had a very good idea of what I wanted to say – but for some reason I could not get past the words of the gospel
“Come and see.”
These words beckon us to open ourselves up to Christ. These words are Christ wanting us to pray. Christ is inviting us to seek him out and to see him as he truly is. To let him into the messiness of our lives and vulnerabilities which we hide from others.
Yet Christ does not force himself on us. He doesn’t lecture us on our hardness of heart or previous shortcom- ings. He invites us to him –
“Come and see.”
Christ will never barge in and take from us. It is not his way. Instead he approaches us gently with a simple invitation. He wants to spend more time with us. He wants to know us. Our God is a patient one.
I am a bit of an introvert and usually take quite a bit of time to get to know people. I used to wonder why I didn’t feel like I had a relationship with God, but finally took a long hard look at what my spiritual life looked like. It was virtually nonexistent. I was finally honest with myself – I can’t form a life giving relation- ship with anyone else unless I give them the time of day. How can I expect to have a relationship with God unless I give him an equal playing field?
There is a great video by Fr. Mike Schmitz called “Tips for Prayer” – definitely worth watching!

As we begin this New Year, lets reflect on how we respond to the call “Come and see.”
