Impact Factor Falsely claims to have IF (e.g., view factor)
The Impact Factor
The
impact factor
(IF) of an
academic journal
is a measure reflecting the
average number of
citations
to recent articles
published in the journal.
It is frequently used as a proxy for the relative
importance of a journal within its field, with journals with higher impact factors deemed to be more
important than those with lower ones.
The impact factor was devised by Eugene Garfield, the
founder of the Institute for Scientific Information.
Impact factors are calculated yearly for those journals
that are indexed in the Journal Citation Reports.
Contoh
the calculation is made every two years
Behavioral and Brain Sciences, IF: 21.952.
In 2010,
citation of articles published in 2009: 178;
citations of articles published in 2008: 283;
Total: 461
The number of articles published is 21 (2009 = 9; 2008=
12).
The impact factor is thus: 461 / 21 = 21.952.
Each article in BEHAV BRAIN SCI is thus (on the
average) 22 times cited in the past two years.
