– A Case Study

– Starting from week 9 — 13
• What for?
– Students are expected to look for an example of problems that might occur in cross-cultural
communication in a variety of contexts, analyze the case by using the appropriate theories, write a report, and present the findings in front of the class.
Procedure (1)
1. Seminggu sebelumnya, mahasiswa diberi penjelasan tentang tugas ini. Kemudian
mahasiswa diminta membentuk kelompok yang terdiri dari 4 – 5 orang. Tiap kelompok akan
mendapatkan satu kasus komunikasi lintas
budaya di dalam berbagai konteks; kasus ini bisa dalam bentuk file audio visual, bisa juga dalam bentuk deskripsi tertulis seperti cerita.
Procedure (2)
2. Selama satu minggu mahasiswa secara
berkelompok melakukan analisis terhadap kasus tersebut dengan menerapkan teori komunikasi lintas budaya yang ada kemudian menuliskannya dalam bentuk laporan sederhana (perhatikan tata tulis, cara mengutip referensi dll). UNSUR

Procedure (3)
3. Pada hari yang telah ditentukan mahasiswa
mengumpulkan laporannya dan menyajikan hasil temuannya di depan kelas. Kelompok lain
memberikan tanggapan atas temuan tersebut.
Procedure (4)
4. Pada pelaksanaan diskusi atau presentasi masukan dari dosen maupun dari mahasiswa dari kelompok lain dirangkum untuk membuat perbaikan laporan (perhatikan tata tulis, cara mengutip referensi dll).

5. Laporan yang sudah diperbaiki dikumpulkan satu minggu setelah presentasi.

Rules of the Game
• The group consists of 4-5 students.
• Each group will be given one topic to be studied.
• Each group MUST submit the final report to the lecturer 24 hour before the schedule of
presentation. Late report will be rejected and all members of the group will be given zero (0) score.
(LATE REPORT = NO REPORT)
• Put the hard copy on the lecturer’s desk and email the sofcopy (doc & ppt) to: [email protected]
Rules of the Game
• Everybody must be ON TIME.
• Each group must prepare the presentation 10 minutes before the due time.

• Each group MUST have their own coordinator, moderator, and minute person to manage the process of presentation.
• Other groups must sit within their own group circles
• All other groups must listen attentively to the
presentation and ask questions during QA session.
• Any talk or noise from one or more members of
groups who are not presenting their report will lead to ZERO score given to all members of the respective group (s).
Rules of the Game
• The group who present their case must have good notes on the discussion and make use of the notes to revise their report.
• The revised report must be submitted one week after the presentation before the next class begins.
(Softcopy only)
Late revised report will be rejected and all members of the group will be given zero (0) score.
• Assessment given to the presenter will cover both report and revised report.

• Students may have bonus score if they are
active asking questions or giving suggestions during presentation.
• Materials for final exam (UAS) = 50%
