Produksi jagung sebagai tanaman sereal terpenting kedua setelah padi, didominasi oleh petani kecil. Namun, kelompok tani dimana petani kecil tergabung didalamnya menunjukkan peran yang tidak berkelanjutan karena kurangnya kekuatan pengambilan keputusan di tingkat dasar; akses terbatas ke tanah, modal, teknologi, informasi dan layanan keuangan; rendahnya daya saing pasar; manajemen internal yang lemah; pemerintah yang terbatas, dan norma sosial budaya. Oleh sebab itu, tujuan penelitian berupaya membangun model perilaku untuk perubahan kinerja petani dalam kelompok tani. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap 75 orang petani jagung di Rasau Jaya, Kabupaten Kubu Raya, Kalimantan Barat dengan pengambilan sampel purposif dan wawancara mendalam menggunakan pemodelan persamaan struktural/SEM berdasarkan pendekatan kelembagaan baru dan teori perilaku yang direncanakan. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa niat dan perilaku masa lalu memiliki pengaruh positif dan negatif, tetapi kontrol tidak mempengaruhi perilaku petani dalam kelompok tani. Oleh sebab itu, Upaya mengubah perilaku petani jagung dalam kelompok tani dapat ditempuh sebagai berikut: (i) kontrol perilaku yang dirasakan dapat dilakukan untuk mendorong motivasi petani terkait kinerja jangka panjang berdasarkan sumber daya dan peluang; (ii) perilaku pro-lingkungan dengan didukung norma injungtif dan dan norma deskriptif yang sejalan; (iii) adanya norma subyektif untuk motivasi sikap pengalaman positif; dan (iv) adanya kepercayaan diri untuk melakukan dan mengendalikan
kinerja.
