ABSTRACT
It is a study on application of cooperative learning model type numbered heads together (NHT) in order to improve student learning outcomes. The study was conducted on 25 students of an elementary school SDN 4 Cibodas, Lembang Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency. The purpose of current study is to describe application of cooperative learning model type numbered heads together to improving student learning outcomes in subject matter of square and rectangular areas. The objective is to describe to describe the plan,and implementation of learning, and improvement of student learning outcomes in the subject matter of square and rectangle areas. This is a classroom action study with 2 cycles based on Kemmis and Mc. Taggart model. Data collection employed observation, text and documentation. The result suggests that the application of this model should be planned as best as possible and learning plan should be improved constantly to get better quality of learning outcomes. Student scores in mathematics, subject matter of square and rectangle areas, indicates an increase in student learning outcomes along with each cycle. Percentage of students learning mastery reached 60% with an average score of 68.2 and 84% with an average score of 76.2 in the first and second cycle, respectively. In conclusion, the application of the cooperative learning model type numbered heads together in subject matter of square and rectangle areas evidently improves student-learning outcomes. It is recommended that the teachersapply the learning model because it evidently improves student-learning outcomes; the researchers interested in applying this model have the theory first and learn the good classroom management procedures that the learning process outcomes will be achieved; and the principal motivates and encourages teachers to conduct classroom action research and to provide the necessary supportive infrastructure of learning process.
