Abstrak
Political crisis in Libya had led UN Security Council decide to take limited military intervention in Libya. France, US, and United Kingdom minus Russia and China committed to attack Libya entitled “Operation Odyssey Dawn” in order to protect civilians from casualties of the Moammar Khadafi regime. Constructivist uses concept such as norms to explain intervention policy. They believe that such action is taken due to states have moral responsibilities to protect human rights. If domestic political affairs in certain country lead to humanitarian crisis, then UN Security Council has legitimation to take military action based solely on norms of human rights which is guaranteed by UN Charter. This article will explain military intervention in Libya based on realism on US foreign policy of what is called Realistic-Wilsonian ideology. Military
intervention held by US and coalition is not for norms. Rather it is for interest. One of the most US vital interests is promoting democracy around the globe. No matter how to achieve it, democracy is the only universal value. Despite legitimate from the perspective of international law, it is not just the humanitarian intervention. Protecting civilians is not the purpose of military intervention in Libya. Rather, it is a reason to achieve greater US interest i.e regime change.
