i ABSTRAK

ii ABSTRACT
Hemimaxillectomy is frequent treatment in patients with oral neoplasms. Post hemimaxillectomy cause connection between the nasal cavity and nasopharynx antrum opens, pathogenic bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumoniae can easily penetrate into the oral cavity. Alginate impression is needed to fabricate obturator for post hemimaxillectomy patients. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of immersing alginate impression of post hemimaxillectomy patients in sodium hypochlorite 0.5% on K. pneumoniae and surface detail. The total thirty sample for each test were divided into six groups consisting of one minute, three minutes, five minutes disinfection group with sodium hypochlorite 0,5% of the alginate impression obtained from five post hemimaxillectomy patients and test die (three group for each). The swab from surface of the impression were cultured on MacConkey agar to count the colonies of K.pneumoniae. A stereomicroscope was used for testing surface detail. Study results showed there was an effect of immersing alginate impression of post hemimaxillectomy patients in sodium hypochlorite 0.5% for one, three and five minutes on K. pneumoniae (p=0,009) and no effect on surface detail of the impression (p=1). There was no growth of K. pneumoniae on MacConkey agar and continuous line, sharp detail of line reproduction 20, 50, 75 µm after immersing alginate impression of post hemimaxillectomy patients in sodium hypochlorite 0.5% for five minutes. The study revealed that immersing alginate impression in sodium hypochlorite 0.5% for five minutes can be used to disinfect the alginate impression of post hemimaxillectomy patients.
