Argumentative

paragraph

is one of the materials that $'ere learning in reading

comprehension

after reading comprehension

Based

on interview

result

on 5- 25 May

from 22 as the subjects

of

the research had known, the students had

different

way

in

studying reading the argumentative paragraph. Besides that they have problems

in

reading

it in

order they hoped able

to

choose and used good strategies when they faced the argumentative paragraph.

Based on observation

to

the classes since

April 2ls until May

46 the

writer

had

known the

shrdents

who

had

the

lowest score

in

reading comprehension

The

writer

also had asked score

list ofeach

students to be subject

for

the document

to Mr. Ali Mirza

and

Mr.

Sabarun as the lecturers reading comprehension

and B.

After getting the

subjects

of the study the writer looked for information about the

students

in this

case

it was

used

to get more information how

the argumentative paragraph reading strategies

of

students and why they get problem

in

reading the argumentative Paragraph.

The

students used

the

strategies

in

reading

the

argumentative paragraph purposed

to

understand the argumentative paragraph easily. One

of

strategies that used by them is

find

and understand the main idea

According to me argumentative

my opinion with

the supponing

theory. Usually if I didn't

undemand about argumenlative paragraph I

will ask my friend to explain it more detail. I srudied about

argumentative paragraph

confuse between expository and argumentative paragraph.

problem

in

reading the argumentative paragraph was

difficulties in

determining the

kinds of text that

makes

me confise it is narrative, descriptive, expository of

argumentative paragraph, because

there were

similar incident of

them.

The strategy that I used to solve my problem in rcading the

argumentative paragraph

was translatiorl I ^{translate whole} of the

paragraph

into

Indonesian language word by word using dictionary or ask

my

friend.sr

Here KSD stated that he made a conclusion to analyze the kinds of

paragraph to understand the argumentative paragraph. Before analyzing

the pamgraph

he translated it ^word by word into

Indonesian language because to comprehend a paragraph

in

lndonesian language easier than English.

It is

a way

to

solve his problem

in

reading argumentative paragraph. The problem that was faced by KSD was

difficulty in

determining the kinds

of

text. Meanwhile the strategy that

was

used

by him was

unsuitable

for him. Exactly he

can change

his

strategy to scanning or

skimming. KSD

knew about the

definition of

Argumentative Paragraph

but

he has

limited

vocabularies and he

still did not

understand about the

kinds of

paragraph.

ask the lecturer

looked

the reasons

the text and

was becoming her problem

in

reading

it.

So, to solve her problem

DWA

used skimrning technique

in

reading the argumentative paragraph,

but in

applying she

just find

the meaning

of paragaph. It is

a

wrong way in skimming

technique besides

that

she made

a mistake

because she read paragraph

slowly. DWA

has

limited vocabularies in order she was diffrcult in reading the

argumentative paragraph.

I confuse

and

difficult to

make

different with

another

kind of text. I

shy

to

ask

with my

lecrurer

but I

ask

my friend to explain

about argumentative paragraph.

Usually in

reading argumentative

pamgaph I write

look for in dictionary.

In this case I

not use the specific strategy to solve my problem.5l
