CHAPTER V: CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS

A. Conclusion

The objectives of this research were to find out the students difficulties in translating narrative text, the factor affecting students difficulties in translating narrative text and the strategies to overcome it. Based on the research findings and discussion in this previous chapter, it can be concluded that:

1. The student‟s difficulties in translating narrative text were divided into five difficulties in linguistic factor. The first is students difficult in grammatical structure in narrative text that focused on the use of Simple Past tense, the second is students difficult in word comprehension (vocabulary), the third is students difficult to understand meaning of word that not find in dictionary, the fourth is the students difficult to arrange the text in target language and the last is students difficult to translate the long and complex sentence.

2. This research finds that there were several factors that affect students‟

ability in translating text, namely motivation which include laziness and feeling of boredom. Students were found to be lazy in translating narrative text due to lack of motivation. The other factor was translation technique

that was use and this could cause students‟ boredom. They felt bored with monotous technique of translation offered by the teacher.

3. This research finds that the students engaged strategies to overcome the difficulties in translating narrative text including: checking the word entry in dictionary, asking friends and teacher. This strategies was found to be effective.

B. Suggestion

The findings of the research were expected to be useful for English teachers, students, and further researchers.

1. For the English teacher

This research will be references to know the weakness of students in translating any English text especially Narrative text. The teacher should give more attention to make practice in translating narrative text in the class. The teacher should search some strategies or methods in teaching translation that can make students interest in translating text then it will overcome the difficulties of the students faced in translating narrative text.

2. For the principal

The principal should provide a lot of support in developing teacher performance in the classroom to improve good learning and student‟s who are able to develop foreign language mastery capabilities.

3. The other researcher

It was expected be able to search about the strategies of difficulties in translating narrative text. So that all of the students‟ difficulties in

translating narrative text can be known, the the strategies can be explored by the further researcher.

-Guru meminta siswa untuk menentukan struktur teks naratif yang sudah dibaca.

-Guru memberikan pengertian tentang struktur teks naratif seperti orientation, serial of event, complication and reorientation untuk meyakinkan jawaban dari siswa.

-Guru memberikan pengertian tambahan tentang struktur kebahasaan dari teks naratif.

d. Data Pr ocessing

-Siswa masing-masing individu diminta untuk menyiapkan alat tulisnya seperti bolpen, buku tilis, buku modul dan kamus.

-Siswa diminta untuk menerjemahkan teks naratif dari cerita yang sudah mereka baca.

e. Verification

-Siswa mengerjakan terjemahan dengan menggunakan kamus dengan baik.

-Guru menilai kegiatan terjemahan siswa.

Penutup

-Guru melakukan refleksi pembelajaran dengan membimbing peserta didik, menyimpulkan materi pembelajaran.

-Guru dan peserta didik menutup kegiatan dengan mengucapkan rasa syukur kepada Tuhan YME.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl in a palace, she lived with her uncle and her aunty after her parents passed away. She lived unhappy the actually, her uncle and her aunty always made her upset. All the palace event were guided by them.

Someday, when snow white wanted to go to the bedroom, she passed the dining room. She saw her uncle and aunty in the dining room, they told that

success, she could run away by the window. She ran as fast as she could, she entered the forest. She walked and ran alone in the dark forest. She met the wild animal and she hide. After a long time, she felt too tired and sleepy, she met a small cottage and she decided to enter. She laid her body in the floor.

Seven dwarfs were so shocked after knowing there was a girl who was lying on the floor, they looked her because their body was so different. Snow white opened her eyes and she met them. She told about her live and they took her as their eldest sister. They lived happy aver after.
