CHAPTER IV ANALYSIS RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

4.2. Discussion

This study was conducted to find out the teachers‟ and students‟ perceptions of using English self-recording video to improve students‟ speaking skill. To answer the question of this study, the closed-ended questionnaire was distributed to the respondents. The total respondents were 56 respondents. The questionnaire consisted of twenty six statements.

This section serves as a place to discuss the results of closed-end questionnaires regarding teachers' and students' perceptions on the use English

self recording video to improve students' speaking skill. In the questionnaire, there are 26 statement items. all of which refer to how the teachers and students themselves perceive self recording video to improve students speaking skill, where they perception about used to self recording as a teaching learning strategy.

The questionnaire consisted of twenty-six statements related to self-recorded videos in English to improve students' speaking ability. As mentioned by Zyoud (2016) stated that the ability to speak is the most important skill since it is the basic for communication. The questionnaire statement had the constraints of using self-recording video in learning process. There were several problems that usually arise in the learning process namely; video recording constraints, lack of time constraints, student reactions and atmosphere constraints in the classroom or learning environment. The results of this study showed that students have a good perception of the use of self-recording video in learning process. This was evidenced by the measurement results of each of several obstacles.

The statement of questionnaire all of item result showed that self recording video is an effective to learning strategy to improve speaking ability. This statement that most of students agree with the statement of the questionnaire. The statement of questionnaire item 1 showed that most of students are interested to use self recording video as learning strategy in English. That there are three point related to the students perception of self recording video. First, the students agree that self recording video that they are convenient into practice speaking skill.

Second, the students agree that self recording video that is an interactive in learning process, they can re-watch their video if they have wrong speech. Third,

students agree that learning process using self recording video can make be confident, they can practice from anywhere place. It allows students can doing for yourself.

During the research, then are some weakness and strengths in this study.

The weakness was that from 10 class of population, there were only 2 class taken for the limited time in doing the research. However, the students and school including the principal and teachers were very helpful and cooperative. Therefore, it is very recommended to conduct a research in SMA Islam Sultan Agung 1 Semarang.

Their study has similarities and differences with this study. Similarities are also found in the study of students' perceptions, use of self-recorded videos, and their ability to track their learning. However, there is a difference between these researchers. The study design they used a qualitative research design and the subjects were used at a different university. Then, this study subject was in high school, while this study subject was in SMA Islam Sultan Agung 1 Semarang.

Dealing with the result, based on the bar chart, the result showed that the score of “Strongly Agree” perception was 230. The score of “Agree” perception was 572. While the score of “Neutral” perception was 487. The score of

“Disagree” perception was 117. Meanwhile, the score of “Strongly Disagree”

perception was 3. The highest score was in “Agree” perception, that was 230 and 572 was “Strongly Agree” from perception that self recording video is an effective to improve students‟ speaking skill. Whereas the lowest score was 3 in

“Strongly Disagree” perception. Based on this analysis, it can be concluded that

both teachers and students concur that using self-recording videos is an effective strategy for improving students' speaking skills.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

This chapter presents Conclusion of this study and Suggestion for , teacher, students, and the next researcher.

5.1. Conclusion

Based on the research finding, it can be concluded that there was a positive perception from the teachers and students who had taught and used English self- recording video to improve students‟ speaking skill. From the result of this study, most of respondents agreed and strongly agreed with the statements of the questionnaire. There were agree was 41% , neutral was 35%, strongly agree was 16%, disagree was 8% and strongly disagree was 0%. Then, for the average percentage of the positive perception whole aspect was 41% agreed and 16%

strongly agree which total 57% positive perception. Therefore, the aspect got a high agreed of the statements and they were positive perceptions the use of self recording video to improve students‟ speaking skill.

It showed that English self-recording video was useful for students‟

speaking skill. Additionally, the use of English self-recording video gave benefit for the students such as they can improve their speaking skill and new experience.

In conclusion, both teachers and students gave positive perceptions about self- recording video to improve students‟ speaking skills.

5.2 Suggestions

Based on the finding of the research, some suggestion can be given as the following:

1. For the teacher

The teacher ought to consistently motivate students to incorporate self-recorded English videos into their learning approach. This method is particularly valuable for enhancing students' speaking abilities in the classroom, as it simplifies the process of teaching speaking skills. Furthermore, this approach fosters creativity and boosts students' self-assurance when it comes to honing their speaking abilities.

2. For the students

By using English self-recording video, students should get a new experience in strategy for learning process and make feel enjoyable during the exam. Furthermore, the students can give their opinion to improve the activities that are liked by students in speaking. So, the students are more confident in speaking English in the classroom.

3. For the next researcher

It is suggested that English self-recording video can be used as a medium and reference for further researcher who want to conduct the similar topic as this research. It would be better to apply in different subject and location.
